OTTOLOCK is designed for quick stops and protecting against theft opportunists. OTTOLOCK is not a replacement for a U-Lock. For maximum security, use a redundant locking method with both a U-Lock and a secondary lock.

Can be cut in under 5 seconds
It can be cut in less than 5 seconds with a $10 pair of metal sheer clippers. These are a false sense of security. They will only stop someone from doing a quick snatch and grab. If they are a bike thief who is looking for a bike, they will quietly cut this in less than 5 seconds with a tool that fits in their pocket. Watch the video in here or search on YouTube "ottolock cut in 2 seconds".

Avoid, doesn't even lock reliably - can be defeated with ease
I fell for the marketing lies on this device, I was hoping for a lightweight reliable lock that I could use for quick stops...but after spending 5 minutes trying to get it to even lock one every time I have attempted to use it, I say this is a complete piece of garbage. 90% of the time when you "lock it" you can just give it a yank and it will unlock and you can just pull the lock off the bike. Neat feature?! Further, there is evidence out there from the Lock Picking Lawyer that Ottolock has done nothing to improve the locks resistance to being cut with $15 tin snips.

Buyer beware - Bike stolen and lock cut within 25 min .
Locked my bike up for less than 25 min in a public place and lock was cut and bike gone by the time I back . So much for being a tough lock to cut.

SECURE & LIGHTWEIGHT
I really like this new OTTOLOCK product. I’ve been a big fan of their products since they came out, but appreciate the importance of increasing the security of the lock. The additional 6 layers of steel make a BIG difference and made this thing noticeably stronger. I noticed the extra weight the moment I picked it up. As always, give a thief an hour and a blow torch and I’m sure it can be compromised, but for the weight of this lock, the portability, and now the extra security is exceptional. Highly recommend!

Great “coffee stop” lock as advertised
I had one of the 1st generation Ottolocks which worked very well for coffee stops on club rides. I typically ride 3x per week and after a year & a half or so the lock starting jamming while in use and eventually would not unlock at all or only with great great difficulty. I tried silicone lube which seemed to help for awhile but then the problem recurred and I finally had to give up on the lock. Several members of my bike club had the same issue and were unable to unlock their bikes after a coffee stop. They had to find a maintenance person to cut the lock, which was a royal pain and obviously destroyed the Ottolock. My guess is that an internal part in the lock mechanism was under-designed and simply wore out prematurely. I will say that the locks did hold up pretty well to bolt cutters & tin snips, i.e., it took a minute or two to cut through them which is pretty good for such a lightweight lock and IMO definitely more secure than a typical cable lock - and also more compact. So despite my disappointing experience with the 1st generation Ottolock I still like the concept and decided to bite the bullet and try one of their new & allegedly improved Hexband models. So far I like it - it’s now thicker for improved cut resistance but not that much heavier than my first Ottolock. I sincerely hope the Hexband model lasts more than two years and doesn’t start jamming shut. If so I’ll be inclined to bump my rating up to five stars (however, if the problem recurs then I’ll likely change my rating to not recommended and start looking for another option for coffee stop lockups).

Do not buy this lock!
I bought this lock thinking it would be a "good enough" solution to secure my battery on short stops. It isn't. This does not work as a lock at all. With a small amount of force (not even enough to strain yourself) you can pull this lock off of something when it's locked. Locking it tightly around my battery caused itself to start pulling open, it can barely handle the tension of locking itself. After I saw that I tried every way I could to lock it down but I was able to easily pull the lock off of my bike. No way I will ever use this lock to secure anything.

Strong and still pretty light.
It’s great. Seems strong. It’s actually longer than I’d prefer. If it came in a shorter size I would do that one.
