Bought this to use for backpacking and had it break right outta the packaging. A few quick emails later and I had a brand new one in the mail on its way to me and all I wanted was replacement parts. While I have not caught anything with it yet, I have gone fishing with it a few times. Rod casts out decent for its size and the reel is smooth. All in all I'm happy with my rod and reel. I would definitely recommend it, and likey will buy more in the future to give as gifts.

I bought a couple of these. The first one I opened part of the rod assembly to attach the reel to the rod was stuck in the top part of the pen, and when I tried to force it out it got damaged. Did not have the same issue with the second one. The screw to attach the reel handle does not tighten fully, and it may need duct tape. The line seems pretty cheap and is very susceptible to tangles. The rod eyelets are very small, which adversely affects casting distance and accuracy. This is definitely not something to give to a young first fisherman, and while the concept is cool, the execution leaves much to be desired. Overall, I was very disappointed, though at least it didn't cost much.

The pole will not retract completely from the first time he used it. Do not buy.

This breaks easily. Several parts have already broken. Our family is creative and resourceful so we made it work but it is not a good choice if this is the only pole you take.

My son loves this. Fishes and casts it everyday! It has lasted everyday use very well.

These are OK as a gimmick, but don't expect to use them. I ordered several and one was missing a part even.

The reel body is made mostly from cheap plastic, the tips which are used to hold the reel to the rod broke with little force applied to the reel after mounting!
