The Best Watch I have Ever Owned (Except the band)
I am pretty tempted to write a book on this watch, but I will try to keep it short and concise. Nah, I’ll write a book. I really like this watch. In fact, I would say that this is the best watch I have ever owned. I did not however love, nor even like the watchband. I will address the watchband later because that turned out to be an ordeal to replace. As far as the watch is concerned. It definitely has all the functionality I want and need. The compass specifically is one of my favorite features as is the altimeter. So from a usability perspective - this watch I believe is very intuitive. I have owned Casio's previously and that may be why, but I have no owned this model before, so it did take a look through the manual. If you already own a digital Casio of similar nature as this watch, setting world time and those other standards settings are the same. Where this watch differed was in setting the lat/long coordinates. Those are the Latitude and Longitude coordinates of your location, this watch also has an 'auto-light' feature where the watch light will automatically turn on when you angle the watch towards you - at about a 40⁰-degree angle. There are a ton of other features such as sunrise/sunset on a given day, temperature, and barometer. I've found that I do use the barometer as a means to give me an idea what the weather is doing, or more precisely what the weather is going to do. How can my watch do that? Glad you asked. When you bring up the barometer on the watch, there is also a barometric graph that displays above the barometric pressure. See the watch takes barometric pressure readings every two hours (This has nothing to do with you pressing the button to display the barometric pressure) so when you do display the barometric pressure, you have a history of whether the pressure has been rising, falling or holding steady. For example, today when I take a reading I can see the barometer has been dropping. To the point that I believe it’s going to rain soon. Now granted I can also look out my window and see that. But what if I don’t have a window? What if its dark? Sure my Granny could smell rain, but she’s not with me anymore and this works almost as well. (not quite as accurate as Granny was, but close). I just find that very useful, especially since I do spend a lot of time outdoors. As I said earlier I use the compass quite a bit, the functionality around the compass is robust and for me to think just a few short months ago, I had to use the hour hand and the sun to determine cardinal direction…now I have a watch that gives me a precise azimuth, day or night!! That is just cool. You can also set this watch up to store your heading (what I referred to as my azimuth) so that even though you are taking temp compass headings along your path, you can reference back the original stored heading. Again, pretty darn cool. So if you bought this watch because you like to look “tacticool” (vs, tactical), then you probably don't need to dig into the book. However, if you want to dig into the deep features of this watch, you will definitely need to read the manual. I still refer to it occasionally for the things I don't do often. It is a thick manual, but I separated the English part from the rest, ran a piece of 100 mph tape (duct tape) on the spline and I'm good to go. I definitely wish I had this watch when I was a solider. No doubt about it. Other cool features, the batteries are solar rechargeable, it’s very simple to change the time zone when you are traveling. I use this feature a lot. You know I have read a lot of review and when you get into these kinds of watches, you seem to find a lot of watch snobs. Guys (especially guys) nitpick about this or that. This is the first watch I’ve owned that cost over $100 bucks and what I can tell you about the watch is that it works and it works well. It’s got more functionality than any watch I’ve owned before and I do make use from most of it. So for me, I would buy this watch again in a NY second. The only disappointment is the watchband. Now to the watchband...The watchband irritated the mess out of my wrist. I live in Texas and it's pretty warm here so sweating is pretty much a given thing. So if I was sweating it seems to really exasperate the irritation. Normally I do not remove my watch when showering, but in this case I had to because I couldn’t allow water between the band and my skin. Throughout the day, I would have to remove it so I could clean it and wipe off my wrist. This is when I’m sitting at my desk working, not when I’m out hiking or at the range. After about two weeks of this, I knew I needed to purchase another band. So I did. (I'll include photos). That made all the difference in the world. Now let me tell you upfront. Replacing a band for this specific watch is not an easy nor cheap task. Here's why, the area where thee watchband slides between the two "posts" is pretty narrow.16 mm to be exact. That is pretty narrow as the band itself measures 24 mm where it connects to the watch and narrows down to 20 mm where the band secures around your wrist and fastens. I like nice things, but I am a function over form. I want something to work before I care how good it looks, however I did not want to put a narrow band on this larger watch. For one I was concerned about durability, and then yes it would look strange. I ended up getting an Infantry nylon wristband. I had to modify it slightly as it was too large, but that's why I bought this specific band - I could modify it. The pictures will show. It's not exactly pretty, but it's working out great. In case you’re wondering, a new replacement from an authorized dealer runs about $69.99, but why would I do that and expect different results with my skin. I also want to mention the book said something about the watchband may cause problems in unhealthy people. Allllllrighty then. I’m not unhealthy by any means and it still caused problems. However, I did not buy the watch because of the camouflaged watchband, I bought it because of the watch. Besides I wasn’t too crazy about the camo watchband. I’ve worn enough as a solider, I don’t need to have it on my wrist every day. One last note on the watchband. This is the watchband I purchased to replace the OEM band: INFANTRY Military Army Men’s Nylon Canvas Fabric Wrist Watch Band Strap Black 20mm #WS-NATO-BB-20MM. I will try to post a link to it. It’s around 10 bucks with free shipping. I’m about to review it next. Basically to get the band to fit, the band is 20 mm wide, I took my Exacto knife and cut little notch where the band is secured to the two posts by a little screw/pipe. I then heated up a flat tip screwdriver and melted the notched out area of the watch. I did this so the watch wouldn’t fray like a rope. I did it on both side, and I haven’t had problem whatsoever. I am pretty tough on watched, but this watch and band are holding up well. Hopefully the pictures will show the notched area. It’s not exactly beautiful, but it works.Well I hope this review helped a little. At least give you an idea of some of the functionality and some of the issues I’ve had. Apart from the band, the watch has been amazing. Just amazing. That’s why I’m rating 5 stars. I ALMOST rated it 4 stars because of the band, but honestly, I’m really just so happy with the watch that I rated it accordingly. But at least through this review you are aware of the potential issues. Good luck!

Updated - Great Watch - but wait...
Updating my review to say this is a great ABC watch, and my first. I had some issues with the barometer, but discovered it was my fault. Figured it out and it works just as it should. Love the negative display and auto light.1/7/2016 - well now the barometer stopped working all together. I tried leaving it in the sun for 1/2 a day, and the batter level does read high (H), but the watch won't provide the barometer reading when accessing that function. The thermometer (part of the barometer function) works fine though...Sending it back to Casio for repair.

My favorite watch
This watch goes with me everywhere. At first I thought I would have a problem with the dark background and lighter letters, but it turns out to not be a problem at all. Outside, the watch is very easy to read. In a darker office with only a desk light, the watch can be read from several angles as long as there is light from the lamp on it. Alternately, you can always press the backlight button. Or you can simply program the watch such that anytime you give it a wrist flick, it turns on the backlight in response to the wrist flick. I like this a lot and find it especially helpful when night driving. No need to touch the watch, just motion with a wrist flick and the backlight comes on.The instructions are extremely good. The compass is calibrated to perfection. I checked the compass against my military Cammenga, and the watch was exactly the same compass reading as the Cammenga. So I doubt you will ever need to calibrate the compass setting. I do recommend reading the manual thoroughly and customizing the watch to your needs such as Celcius, time zones, display style, beep silencing, and more. I like having a mini weatherstation on the wrist also in that the baro chart is quite handy throughout the day. It is easy to see if weather is improving or inclement weather is soon to arrive. The altimeter needs to be offset calibrated to your area. This is true with any watch. Just follow the instructions. Beyond that, the altimeter is fun to use on hikes. I thoroughly appreciate not having to feed this watch batteries .... ever.

Better Than Coffee!!!!!
Good product. I don't care what anyone says, the Japps make a better watch than those Swiss blokes. At least when we're dealing with digital watches. And yes, I said "Jap". As long as my countrymen keep referring to me as "white" (I'm 25% black, the rest is dark skinned southern European ancestry), putting me into the same category as Swedes, Russians and fair skinned Muslims from the Caucus region, then I'm gonna call it as I see it. Japps. Back to the watch. It's super light, the watch face isn't too big, and is a tight fitted product. It tells the altitude, because, you know, I have to climb Mt. Whitney a few times every month (wink-wink) and has a barometer. I'm constantly taking a barometer reading in my bed room. Once a night I stand there in my tighty-whities, look at my new Casio, and announce to my hot wife, "Honey, the barometric pressure in out bedroom is presently 101.325 kPa. Perfect barometer for some action, lose the panties, you hot minx." Amazingly, the barometric pressure in my bedroom always stays constant, until, of course, the hot late-night action gets going. The digital face readings remain a little dark and can be difficult to see. I'm told this is because military special forces guys wear watches like this, so they don't want anything illuminated as they stalk the enemy in the dead of the night, surprising Haji and killing him coldly, without remorse, protecting me, as I sleep at home with my firm-arsed wife, taking nightly barometric pressure readings. Thank you Navy SEALS! Hence, if this watch has the approval of special warfare guys, then it's got mine! The only reason I can't give it 5 stars is because it's not a Rolex. Plus, I still haven't fully forgiven the Japps for the whole Pearl Harbor thing.

The watch so nice I'm buying it twice!
Best watch I have ever owned. Mine was recently stolen after owning it for a little over a year. I am back to purchase another one to replace it. I am unable to truly express how much I like this watch. It worked very well for me, all of the features were working perfectly 14 months after purchasing. I found it very durable, the face had no scratches and the strap did not show signs of wear. I would definitely recommend this watch.

Casio PRG300CM-3 - Reloj deportivo
