If you have no idea what a radiator is, nevermind where it is, or you don't know the first thing about leasing or financing a car, this book is for you.I will admit that I know nothing about cars. I can't tell you the first thing about MPG's. So I knew that as I began my car searching, I needed a little help so that I wouldn't get completely owned by dealers. Enter "Buying a Car for dummies" (aka me). It introduced the lingo to me. What particulars I needed to look for when looking for my car. It weighed the pros and cons for me of getting a new car versus buying a used car. It basically empowered me to know what I was looking for, how I would look for it, and gave me the tools to best make my decision and at a price that I was satisfied with.The book was published in 1998. Minus factual data (Enterprise isn't the only rental car dealership that sells used cars) and take into account how internet wired our population is 95% of this book still holds true today. I bought it for 26cents and it has been my best buy on Amazon to date.Next buy: "Auto Repair for Dummies"Stamp of Approval

I wish I would have read this book when I went to haggle with the dealer for my car 6 years ago. I think I paid too much for a car that had been sitting in the lot for 9 months. It is time again for me to start looking for a new car, and I am already a fan of the "For Dummies" books. I feel that I have learned enough to save money on the new car, plus get information about what my trade is worth.

Read it from cover to cover and feel empowered about buying a car. Even passed on the info to a friend and she benefited from it as well. I will say this, if you have no earthly idea what you're doing then this book is helpful. If you have a clue, then you might find the information to be much more common knowledge.

After 48 years of faithful service, my 1966 Plymouth Valiant gave up the ghost and I needed another car. The prospect filled me with dread for apart from checking automotive websites and Consumer Reports, I had no idea how to go about seeking/purchasing another car. Buying a Car for Dummies was a goldmine of helpful information on all aspects of buying a used/new car and was money well spent. Heartily recommended!

This book was published or written in the late 90s... but the author knows what she’s talkin about .So many golden nuggets of information about negotiations, checklists and tips about how to get the best value.

Very informative, gave me a few good ideas as to what to look for and diff financial options when it comes to getting a car. Also tells you pros and cons of diff vehicles to get or not get.

I failed to do my research and bought this book without realizing that it was published in like the early 90s. It was too outdated to do me much good, and I donated it to Goodwill.

Wonderful book. A bit too in depth on things that likely don't matter, but overall a good start if you are a first time car buyer
