Such a phenomenal read! Highly recommend!
Oh.... Oh my gosh.Astonishing! This has got to be the best retelling I have EVER read. I am in tears. This book was phenomenal! All retellings I have ever read tend to plat close to the chest and not change very much... or change it all together so the original gets lost.But... Beauty and the Beast: Lost in a Book totally changed AND challenged them all. It's a one of a kind!I will say this, I pre-ordered it the SECOND I knew about it. Being a fanatic of Beauty and the Beast there is no possible way I could pass this up. The waiting game drove me insane but it was TOTALLY WORTH IT! I mean it is so epic, even halfway through the book I told my local library they HAD to buy a copy for others to read. The story line was unexpected and so different I really didn't think it would work. Boy oh boy. I was wrong. Jennifer Donnelly has some SERIOUS talent. I have a feeling if someone tried to one up this book, they would fail. The writing was awesome and flowed so perfectly that there is no way you would want to put it down and if someone made you, you would possibly beat them over the head with the book WHILE reading it. It is just that awesome. LolThe characters were so strong and so powerful that you bond over a whole new level. Just being smoldering, sexy, sassy like Death. Sweet, charming, and beautiful like Love. Adventurous, strong, and bookwormy like Belle ... I mean the list goes on. Even Beast, Chip, and the rest of the gang is so powerful that you not only feel what they fell, you ARE them.Ugh stop reading my review and go by this book! RIGHT NOW! What are you still reading for!? YOU NEED THIS BOOK! Go! Go get it!(Also....can I please rate HIGHER than 5 stars! It deserves more!)―Reviews of a fearstreetzombie

A Story Within a Story
Anything related to Beauty and the Beast is very popular right now, with the release of the new movie and, like many fans, I was looking for a Beauty and the Beast book to read in anticipation of seeing the movie. This one sounded interesting and like a quick read so I decided to take a chance on it, even though I've never read anything written by Jennifer Donnelly before.Beauty and the Beast: Lost in a Book is a story that takes place while Belle is a prisoner in the Beast's castle. Anyone who has seen the animated movie knows that the Beast shows Belle his library as a friendly gesture and a gift to Belle to make her feel welcome in his castle. This story basically takes place right after that event where Belle discovers a hidden room behind the library and finds the book, Nevermore. After the first time she steps through the entrancing pages of Nevermore, she can't wait to get back to a world where everything is perfect and she can leave behind the lonely world in the Beast's castle. She meets a countess who promises to help her travel the world and see everything she's always wanted to see. It seems too good to be true but Belle gets caught up in the perfect life she experiences in Nevermore. Little does she know, she is a pawn in the game between good and evil.Lost in a Book is a very entertaining and quick read. Like Belle, I love books so I was picturing myself right alongside her! As I was reading this book, I couldn't help but compare it to elements I've seen in Harry Potter. The first similarity is the book Nevermore that Belle walks into as well as the ongoing battle between good and evil. I enjoyed this story and found it to be a very easy, light read. It seems to be geared towards teens, and I'd say it's very appropriate for readers of that age, but more mature readers will enjoy this as well. I'm in my mid-30s and liked it! If you love the story of Beauty and the Beast and want to read a story about Belle that is more than the story we all know, this is a good option!

Loved it!
I was a bit skeptical about the storyline being intertwined with Beauty and the Beast. But once I opened the book and read the first page, I couldn't put it down. I know that no matter how old you are; if you like this genre, you'll get sucked right in. I hope this was helpful. If you get the book... Enjoy getting lost in its pages! 😉

Have read it 3 times
I have read this book three times already over a couple of years and every time I’m reminded of how much I like it! It’s a fantastic and new point of view from the classic Beauty and the Beast. I’ve also really enjoyed Donnelly’s Waterfire Saga, and can’t wait to read more of her books. ❤️Favorite quotes: ‘She might be a captive, but in this room, with a book in her hand, she could be free.’‘All her life, she’d loved books. She loved the look of them, the smell of them, the sweet weight of them in her arms. Most of all, she loved the feeling she got every time she picked one up—the feeling of holding an entire world in her hands.’‘“But all we need to do is begin. The rest will take care of itself. A journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step.”’ - Belle

Very light, fun read
Very light, fun read. The book cover is beautifully done. The story actually does the original story justice! Belle learns that LOVE not DEATH will win when she encounters "Nevermore".

So good!!!
📚 So I just finished reading Lost in a Book, and it was so good! 💛 It's definitely a great story for all Beauty and the Beast fans. You almost feel like you're being part of the story together with Belle while reading it.The concept that Belle's going inside a magical book once in a while and befriending its characters and living a wonderful life is brilliant. But she also learns that even if life is difficult sometimes, you must always live your life and write your own story. It's a great message, and the book also shows you that life isn't always greener on the other side. And that love always wins. They also gave it a bit of fantasy flair since Love and Death are involved as well, but it still feels like a fairytale. It also does a great job keeping you connected to the movie with small details such as Belle remembering stuff from her old life and keeping the characters in the castle present. Again, Belle is going a little bit back and forth to the book, so you feel somewhat grounded to the story's reality. And also the first like 50 pages does kinda introduce you to the story before the part with her finding the book actually starts; it helps you getting into the timeline that the story take place and you kinda gets to understand what's going on in Belle's head at that time. And since this book was written for the 2017 live action version of Beauty and the Beast, it definitely has a bit of that attitude to it, but at the same time it feels like the author wanted to pay some tribute to the original, because the library scene here defenitely feels more like the animated version, which I appreciate.Overall, I had a great experience reading this book. I always love when they make stories with Beauty and the Beast that take place during that time in the movie when they're getting to know each other. It's always interesting to watch, or in this case, read, and I think the author managed to create a very interesting and charming story. A magical Disney story to keep the middle grade reader engaged, but even adults, of course. Highly recommend! 🥀
