Great for Grandmas and Disabled
I have struggled over the past few years to provide computer access for my adult son whom is autistic, and my mom whom is 86. They don't live in the same place, but share a lack of ability to cope with Windows. My aim was to give them easy access to Facebook so that they could see family photos and interact with a far-flung extended family on a daily basis. I got my mom a Kindle Fire, which I believe she could have mastered, but she is a technophobe, and recoiled from the lack of privacy that she perceived came with a Facebook page. I set up a laptop in my son's room at his assisted living home, but it ran on Windows Vista, took a long time to boot up, and peppered him with pop-up windows requesting access for this or that; stuff that most people dismiss without a second thought. As a result, he never used it. This beauty is a whole different story. It runs on Android instead of Windows. It takes only about 30 seconds for the thing to boot up, and things like Facebook and Netflix are apps that appear on the home screen; or I should say touch screen. He used it on his visit home this weekend, and was actually excited to have it installed in his room when I took him back. He can be scrolling through movies from Netflix or family photos from Facebook within a minute of starting the computer. It has only two USB ports, so if you want to add anything more than the included keyboard and mouse, you have to add a USB hub. I did that, and connected a Microsoft game pad, but it was so glitchy as to be impractical. There may be an app available that will fix that, but I haven't had time to research that. Internal storage is relatively limited but more than adequate for the use my son puts it to. I assume that adding an external hard drive for mass storage will be a possibility in the future, if it isn't already. If my son continues to do well with this gem, I may even get one for my mom, though it will probably be another exercise in futility.

Utterly Worthless! You are better Off Hooking Your Smart Phone up to a TV!
TERRIBLE. I bought this HP Slate for the sole purpose of being the CENTER of my business operations. I already own a Acer Windows 8 Touch screen, to which I was hoping the Slate would replace. The Acer has proved to be a far superior product, despite Windows 8 lacking a large library of Applications. Within 24 hours of utilizing the Slate I encountered many an issue. #1. IT FROZE REPEATEDLY, it had to be restarted CONSTANTLY, defeating the purpose of even using it. Take note of the other reviews on here- this thing isn't half as capable as my $50 Wal-mart Smart phone. #2 90% of the Apps on the Google Play Store DO NOT RECOGNIZE the Slate with its "Unique" Android OS or display capabilities, ensuring 90% of the applications on the Google play store are positively worthless and incompatible with the Slate. #3 TECH SUPPORT: I complained about it freezing, jumped through their scripted troubleshooting only to have it sent in for 'Repair'. Upon receiving my newly fixed slate, I attempted again, to make it the center of my business operations. AGAIN I ran into unfixable issues- the Google Play Store DOES NOT EVEN WORK on it now! AGAIN I am paying my employee to stay on the tech support line for a total of 4 hours the first fixaroo, 4 hours the 2nd fixaroo. Supposedly their technicians failed to rectify the issue the 2nd time as the google play store was suffering from a 'operation systems failure'. Give me a break HP! All attempts at Credit or Refund must go through a "Justification Process"....... To which my mind reasons the obvious justification for a refund is that of a completely inferior, faulty product. My intent with this machine was to have employees utilize my companies internal application, clock in/clock out, determine weather conditions, map out delivery routes and a plehtora of other uses my current Acer Machine functions well with....... But when the Slate machine constantly freezes, when 90% of the applications do not even properly function on this machine...... FORGET IT!

Just writing to let you know how awesome this is :)
Firstly I would know what you are getting! Its android 4.2 on your in he form of a all in one. Its not a windows machine OK?!?!? Now that we have gotten over that part let me tell you from the technical side the specs on this thing are not the best, but you can't really tell by how snappy it is. This zips through apps seamlessly it has: Android 4.2, Jelly Bean Processor NVIDIA® Tegra® 4 21.5" diagonal IPS full HD widescreen LED-backlit touch-enabled Memory 1 GB DDR3 <---- Still can't believe this Hard drive 8 GB eMMC <----- Bad Yes the hard drive is bad but there is still hope. You can get a 32 or 64 GB Micro SD memory card with the adapter and expand your storage if you so wish. Enough of that tech stuff. From my personal experience its a must have if you one of those people who like browsing the web and doing research this is an awesome tool. If you love to play video game emulators and roms or iso this is your best friend you can hook up a bluetooth controller or connect via the usb port and play all of the classics. PlayStation 3 remotes Xbox 360 wired remotes work. Neogeo, snes, gba, gb, genesis, n64, mame, cps2, cps3, ps1, ngp everything works trust me this is beast!.. Netflix, Youtube, Hulu, Crackle and vudu :) yes!!! you can also install flash on this and watch movies from Firefox or You can install the TV portal apk app and stream movies directly from the app. I use this in my store for showing customers video game titles and game play videos. you can mount this on the wall or lay it on the table! such an awesome device. For all you Skype and Google hangout junkies this is for you. This also can be a great alternative for older more mature people who just want to stay in contact with their children. Trust me I am enjoying. Everyone who see's mine wants one so the product speaks for it self
