Smartpool SK35 Manual Diverter Valve Replacement Kit for SunHeater Aboveground Pools white

Everything you need (almost) to divert water to a pool solar heater
I purchased one Smartpool Sunheater solar pool heater (2'x20') and I wanted to use this diverter valve to connect it to my Intex Metal Frame above-ground pool. Using the diverter valve, I can still run my filter pump, but stop the water flow to the heater when it is not in the sun (e.g., at night or on overcast days). This was easy to set up following the instructions that come with the kit. (You can see a PDF of the instructions at the Smartpool website.) All of the parts are threaded, which makes it easy to screw them together. Basically, you join the two Ts to the diverter valve. Then you screw the four hose adapters into the four remaining openings of the Ts. On one side of the diverter valve, you attach the hose coming from your pump and the hose going to the heater; on the other side of the diverter valve you attach the hose returning from the heater and the hose returning to the pool. When the diverter valve handle is turned parallel with the pipe, so it is open, the water takes the path of least resistance and flows straight to the pool without flowing through the heater. When the diverter valve handle is turned perpendicular with the pipe, so it is closed, the water flows through the heater. The 1-1/4" diameter Intex hoses fit perfectly onto the smallest part of the hose adapters. I assume that 1-1/2" hoses fit on the larger part of the hose adapters. To assemble, I used Teflon plumbers tape on the threads, and I used a plumber's wrench to tighten the connections. Hand-tight was not sufficient - it resulted in leaks. A couple of my hoses are leaking where they meet the adapters, but I think I just need new hose clamps at those connections. So in addition to what was included in the kit, I also needed to purchase or have on hand: (1) two hoses, to run between the diverter kit and the solar heater (in addition to the two hoses that came with my filter pump); (2) hose clamps for the hoses; (3) Teflon plumbers tape; and (4) plumber's wrench.

Good Product
While I haven't installed yet, I have inspected the parts and it certainly seems that this will work well to divert waster from my pool pump into the solar water heater. A whole lot easier than rigging something myself.Update: I installed this on a Dough Boy above ground pool and it works great! You have to glue the fittings together with PVC glue to make it watertight. I have measured the water temperature coming from the solar heater as hot as 100 degrees on a sunny day. I takes about 5 sunny days to elevate the12’ x 24’ x 4.5’ deep pool water to a very comfortable 85 degrees. I’m still a bit challenged to find better quality hoses to make the connections from the heater to the pool but I am currently using very inexpensive sump pump hoses. Aside from the occasional pinhole leak, that I tape shut with electrical tape, they work well. I hope this information helps.

Buy at Hardware Store - Save Money & Get Everything
For what it is this works. I bought the kit because I bought a Smart Pool brand solar water heater and you need this to divert water from the solar heater when it is hot out. However this kit came with fittings I didn’t need (the reducers that thread into the Tees), but didn’t come with straight 1-1/2” adapters that I do need for the Tees. I am using 1-1/2” PVC which is what my pool pump is Plumbed for, and what the solar heaters and the diverted valve are made for.Depending on your plumbing it might be just what you need. However if you see what this kit comes with you could buy it all likely cheaper at the Hardware store. I haven’t installed it yet so will review further if anything surfaces. For now I would say it should work, but feel I shouldn’t have to make trips to the Hardware store to add to a kit that I purchased from the same company that makes the solar heater panels.

The installation was quick and easy. Mission accomplished fast and cheap
I didn;t have a solar heater. I wanted to isolate my propane heater so I could chlorinate through my skimmer and this collection of parts was cheaper than buying separately and fit my needs perfectly. All was as advertised. The installation was quick and easy. Mission accomplished fast and cheap.
