Two of today's most passionate and inspirational artists join forces in the recital programme that brought audiences to their feet at the Menuhin Festival in Gstaad in Summer 2011. The chemistry between Helene Grimaud and Sol Gabetta left critics and audiences nothing short of euphoric and this first duo recording captures the revelatory magic of their collaboration. This is the first time, that either artist has embarked on a dedicated duo recording project and it goes far beyond a traditional musical collaboration. Based on a rare understanding on many levels - musical, emotional and personal, this fresh and strong encounter does not even raise the question of who accompanies whom. Finding new musical insights in familiar work, Helene and Sol present masterpieces in new light. The album reprises the same programme the duo performed in Gstaad: Robert Schumanns Fantasiestucke, Claude Debussys Sonata for Cello and Piano in D minor, Johannes Brahms Sonata for Cello and Piano No.1 in E minor and Dmitri Shostakovichs Sonata for Cello and Piano.Like Grimaud, in addition to performing traditional repertoire with the worlds great orchestras, Sol Gabetta is a champion of new works and a passionate musical collaborator. Argentine-French of Russian origin, Sol is a best-selling, chart-storming artist, who is regarded as one of the great cellists of our day, impressing with her intriguing, full-bodied approach and a charismatic, conquering personality.

Beautiful Duo- Top Pressing
The rest of the industry should learn a lesson in record pressing because the Classical albums I have purchased lately have all been clean and straight pressings. Not so with many of my rock and country album purchases which have been disappointing. This is a wonderfully produced recording session. I have been listening to Helene for several years and I just experienced Sol's Vivaldi work so I took the plunge here on this record. I do not regret it. Helene's piano and Sol's cello are perfect together. The record breathes and they never step on one another. Get this one.

Terrible vinyl pressing mars great performance
This is a great performance marred by a terrible, terrible vinyl pressing. For a 180gm "audiophile" pressing, there is frequent distortion in the right channel (on at least sides 2 and 3). There's also a lot of surface noise, but honestly if that was all, it would be ok. The distortion kills the ability to listen to this album.Buyer beware!

But this release is a wonderful surprise in the quality of the playing
New release LPs are not always what one expects especially if one is used to the "Golden Age" LPs. But this release is a wonderful surprise in the quality of the playing, the selected repertoire and the quality of the pressings. There were a couple pressing snaps and pops but these never bother me because of the great analogue sound. Very natural (no boosted highs or lows) , great soundstage and quiet. I'm thrilled at the quality of some of these new performance releases on LP. Definitely recommended!!

Cannot say enough good things about this vinyl
Cannot say enough good things about this vinyl. My copy plays very clean and shows off the talents of these musicians. There is nothing quite like a cello on a good vinyl.

Good music.
Not so charming in these 2 records. I would try to learn something.

Glatte Empfehlung
