Quartex Q-80 Quartz Clock Movement, 3/8” Maximum Dial Thickness, 7/8" Hand Shaft Length

I wanted to get an old clock running again, and so I studied the old clock movement and found this as a replacement. At the price, I was willing to take a chance. And it works perfectly. The biggest issue was making sure I got the right one. These are made to go through material of a certain thickness, so be sure to measure your clock--or the old movement--accurately and buy the one you need. Once you have it, it's a straightforward process to put this one in the clock. Just a couple of screws. It comes with instructions, but it's so intuitive, it hardly matters. I didn't use the included hands (second, minute, hour). The clock already had perfectly good ones. Placing the old hands on this movement worked just fine. It's not going to impress anyone. It's plastic, and it can be twisted out of position fairly easily. But it works, keeps time accurately, and makes the clock look just as it did before.

Good thing husband is handy. He reports it was not difficult to install. He did have a little confusion trying to decide which size to purchase, took acquiring some new knowledge which was not easily found. But it did work out and the clock is working again. WELL, THERE HAS BEEN SOME TIME BETWEEN INSTALL AND WHEN I WROTE THE FIRST RATING. THIS BRAND MAY WELL BE GOOD, BUT THERE IS NO, I REPEAT, NO SIMPLE WAY TO FIGURE WHAT SIZE THREAD YOU NEED. The company needs to improve their non-existent customer service.

The clock works were easy to install and seem accurate. It saved a clock we bought years ago in Costa Rica as it finally wore out and we liked the looks of it.

UPDATE!! Changed my rating from 3 to 5 stars. I believe I found the problem that caused the movement to stop. It hasn't stopped for several weeks now, and continues to be extremely accurate. My apologies if I led anyone to avoid buying this movement. I'd buy this again if I needed another clock movement. ORIGINAL COMMENTS: This movement is deadly accurate when it's working. However, for some reason it tends to stop after a week or so. Reseating the battery sometimes gets it going again... other times I have had to file the contacts on the clock and the battery terminals to get the current flowing again. I've checked the battery and it tests good. I've only had this in operation for about 5 months and there's no visible sign of corrosion on the clock or battery terminals, and the battery fits very snugly into the battery contacts. When it's working, I love the product. I just never know when it's going to stop.

I installed this clock movement immediately upon receipt and it would not work. The second hand just "bounces" in place and the minute and hour hands do not advance. I reached out to Klockit and they would not offer any help since I purchased through Amazon directly. I have requested a replacement and returned the defective unit. Hopefully, the replacment works. It is very frustrating to have a new unit that does not work and then deal with the hassle of going to a UPS store that is some distance away to ship the return. Very disappointed at this point. I received the replacement and it operated well for a few weeks and then stopped working. I am returning the replacement for a refund and will purchase a different clock movement that is better quality and more reliable.

The claim in the ad the clock is silent is FALSE, it makes as loud a tic toc as any other clock I have heard. I was disappointed to find this happening. It took a day to become noisy. After years of use my Quartex clock movement died and I bought this one as a replacement. My clock hands were silver and I needed to remain with them for the black ones supplied with this new clock movement can't be seen. My clock has a black background (see attached photo). Now I was already aware that clock hands aren't standard among manufacturers nor are they interchangeable. So thinking I was clever I remained with Quartex to be sure my old clock hands would work. To my surprise Quartex changed their own standard and their minute hand which is quite an oddball with a non-circular attachment no longer fit. Fortunately, with a drill and a dremel tool I widened it so the old silver hands fit. Be forewarned if you plan to change the clock hands you should expect to have an issue. Buy only from the same manufacturer and be sure they fit.

This unit is good for clocks that have a thicker dial and/or a deeper bezel. The 7/8" hand shaft length projects out by that amount beyond the face of the dial and the second hand is mounted on the very top of the hand shaft. Measure to make sure there is enough room for the second hand to move without hitting the inside of the bezel. Spacers could be used to draw the unit further back but it would be better to buy a lower profile unit. The dial face that I used this unit for was about 12" in diameter. Most of my other clocks were smaller and would use a unit with a shorter hand shaft length.

The kit came with two minute hands and no hour hand making it useless as shipped. Fortunately we were able to use the hour hand from the broken mechanism otherwise we would have needed to return it. Should have better quality control.
