Q: can this be melted at the ends like regular 550 or 750 para ?

This is kevlar and it does not melt well with a cigarette lighter. You may be able to do it with a soldering gun but it is very difficult. If you wish to protect the ends I use West Marine Whip It which is like an electrical plastic which you can brush on or I use heat shrink tubing and a hot blower. The strength of this material is many times that of 550 or 750. The material is not covered as is the strenth portion of parachute cord which as the nylon cover. Being Kevlar is is resistant to abrasion but without the covering it is immediately in contact. I hope this helps you understand the pros and cons. I am very happy with mine.

It is about an 1/8th inch thick, which is about 1/2 as thick and it does lay more flat as one of the other answers had mentioned.

It is not a round cord but a flat one. The wide side is 0.11 inches. The thin side is 0.0625 inches.

Not entirely sure i understand your question but the material that this cord is made out of is very flame resistant. Most synthetic rope you can melt the end to keep from fraying but dyneema doesn't melt or burn like most materials
