Dog head hammer 3 lb | | Japanese blacksmith hammer | Knife making

The weight and balance of this hammer are really good.  It is supposedly a little heavier than the typical 2.5 pound blacksmith hammer, but I don’t really feel a difference.  It may be my imagination, but I seem to get through the rough forging with fewer heats, and I'm finding myself choking up on the handle when I need greater force control, so maybe the higher weight makes some difference.  Right out of the box it did leave visible dings in my work pieces, so I had to round the face a little more, but that was expected.  All in all a great hammer, and way less expensive than other dog head hammers I have found.

I always wonder about lower cost items, but I was very pleased with this hammer. The style and quality make it feel like a much more expensive hammer. I was surprised to find hammers of this quality priced over $100. I'm still in my first month of use. So far it's been worth every penny.

This is exactly as described. A few minutes at the grinder to dial in the face and your good. For the money you can’t beat it. Perfect for knife makers. Good balance and easy to direct your blows where you want it.

I like how the hammer is shape, it has a different look to it. it not like traditional hammer. Also has good weight to it.

The hammer feels nice and didn't need much work resurfacing the face for what I need it for. I'll be replacing the handle down the line for a bit bigger one. overall good hammer.

The hammer has potential, and the price is reasonable, but expect to have to completely regrind the striking faces before it's usable. Once that's done it's a perfectly serviceable hammer, but don't expect it to be usable straight out of the box.

Beautiful hammer, moves metal very well, comfortable grip 100 percent would recommend.
