OXO SteeL Cocktail Strainer

I've had good experiences with OXO kitchen tools, and this is no exception. This strainer works well, fits my mixing glass perfectly, and is easy to clean. The spring is durable and thicker than many cheaper strainers.

This hawthorne strainer by OXO is a wonderful piece of gear that every home bartender should own. The rubberized finger grip prevents slipping, even when things get sloshed with sugary booze, and the handle is compact and out of the way. After seeing this design, a long-handled strainer doesn't make sense.

I love this strainer and have used it for 5 years at this point... (How is that for durability!). I am happy to double strain 95% of cocktails with a secondary tea strainer or similar fine mesh. However, I think I am finally moving to the camp that for egg drinks, a fine coil is required for the job . What does that mean? Well, if you are just setting up a home bar, this is a great option! However, if you plan to make a lot of whiskey sours or drinks with egg whites, I think you will be better served by a strainer with a tighter coil. Alternatively, you can also steal the spring from another strainer and double coil onto this one.

This is a great strainer, hands down. The design is different than normal, but it makes you wonder why they all aren't designed like this. It's a tad more expensive than some, but OXO makes great, usable products without fuss Pros: -Strains large and small objects well without getting clogged -Finger "holder" works remarkably well, and after the first use or two, you get used to it and wonder why all other strainers have that awkward handle -Fits well into basic shakers and glasses Cons: -I've gotten my finger covered in the cocktail a few times due to the placement, but not a big deal -I have a little larger than average female hands and could see a set of small hands having trouble using this one handed with a large shaker. This isn't a downside, though one may have to use two hands (I do occasionally out of habit and it's easy, just something to consider, though normal strainers would pose the same problem)

I love that this strainer is exactly what it’s supposed to be. It is lightweight but sturdy. I have had compliments from other bartenders that think it works great. It’s not too flashy, but it doesn’t leak or cause any issues. I also have not had the wire fall off on me yet. I’m a big fan. If anything, I might drill a hole in the handle someday so that I can hang it in the bar on a hook.

I'm biased towards OXO brand. Why ? Because they make quality functional kitchen products. I own several products made by them so when looking for bar tools, it was my first place to start looking. This strainer fits over the steel shaker glass perfectly. When I'm done, a quick rinse and it cleans up quick. When making margaritas and fresh lime, it strains the pulp perfectly. Its easy to hold and to work with. Its made of quality steel. I've had it for a month and have been using it frequently. No issues. I recommend this OXO strainer. Get one.
