Wilton makes the best vices.
This is the third Wilton vice that I bought for the shop. The first two lasted 12 years and I expect this one to last 6 years, or more, too. This vice is used multiple times a day without problems but eventually the handle gets bent, one of the screws that hold the jaws falls out, or the lock that keeps it from rotating won't hold anymore. The only thing that caused a little bit of work to install this was that the old vice was 5 inches. Wilton now only makes a 4 1/2 or 5 1/2 inch replacement and I had to drill two new holes when mounting it.If you need a great heavy duty vice, consider Wilton.

Great vise!
Unlike some of the reviews I read, my vise came well packaged.Install was straight forward and the vise is in great shape. No bent handles, no chipped paint, etc.Vise operates smoothly in all directions and feels solid throughout. Hoping it lasts me many years.

Very Beefy!
What a Beast! It is great, very precise and versatile. I keep finding new ways to use it, “ Doing projects without a Wilton is kinda like going back to life without a smart phone ! “ it is a great workspace as well.

Pleased So Far
Like others mentioned, these aren't packaged for the kind of handling they'll receive in transit. Despite the destroyed box, mine arrived undamaged. All adjustment screws/levers were straight and intact.USA made or not, this is a well built vise for the home mechanic or hobbyist. The jaws are straight and replaceable. The slide is well machined and the included scale is relatively accurate. The screw/crank action on mine is very smooth. There's so little resistance that I can zip the jaws out/in with 1 finger.I omitted a star because the finish between the base and vise was already chipping when I disassembled it to mount to my workbench. Which leads to my next complaint: even my junky box store 4" vise has bearings between the base and body. This does not. If used in a humid area, eventually the finish will wear off and the 2 will rust solid. That said, this is light years better than a cheapo box store vise. Flipping from vice to pipe clamp only requires a 1/4 turn of the set screw and a butter smooth twist of the jaws. The jaws themselves are perfectly square and made of high quality material.I used a high quality firearm grease w/PTFE to lubricate the area and prevent rust. Hope it helps. I plan to follow another reviewer's advice and install tapered springs to make the base rotation easier. I hosed the slide, screw, and nut down with silicone spray and am very pleased with the ease of adjustment. For the price, I'm good. It should last me a lifetime of household projects and hot rod builds, so I feel the price is reasonable.

should have never bought harbor freight
The media could not be loaded. 2nd wilton vise. this vise is hands down worth the $. you go to harbor freight and spend half and get crap. the original hb vise has problems gripping, stripped out rotate set screw, slop in the clamp adjustment thread rod and rotational slop. had problems with it holding bolts or anything and torquing it free. the Wilton vise has way better jaws, smooth adjustment rotation and lock. the pipe jaw is indexed better to get more surface area clamping as well. buy this one.

Updated
Update: Manufacturer replaced & upgraded. Suposedly Covid delayed internal factory works. The new vise is working as expected.BTW... The addition of tapered springs over the internal swivel base bolts will push the locking ring down and reduce the effort required to rotate the main body. All was great until it wasn't. I had faith and patients because I researched the name before I purchased. I thought the good name would stand upright on its own and that China QC would be in check. The vise was solid and rockin until one day it broke under a 4.5 inch opening with regular force applied. Meaning, NO cheater-bar was used on the leadscrew crank bar for extra force between the jaws. I was pushing a bushing out of a block. The vise moved ~30% of the bushing length before the jaw slide tube failed.I contacted Wilton Customer Support. I spoke with a great guy who reviewed the facts and photographs. During review It was determined that I had applied undue force. I.e. "Whaling On It" even though I was not using a cheater bar. I was told that despite this determination Wilton was going to honor my claim. I followed their instructions to complete the claim. After ten days from me completing their instructions I asked for tracking information. No tracking information was available. After another week there was still No tracking. I have been waiting over a month and I have Zero tracking information and Zero Replacement.Hopefully it will fall out of the sky tomorrow and my faith in an American brand name will be restored. Squeak goes the wheel! As I like to say, "It's a Cool Tool!". For now it proudly sits on the outer most corner of my black epoxy toped workbench like a wounded battleship in a waterfront memorial park. People come by and ask about it. They offer their condolences and brag about spending way less on their tools than I do. Hopefully my reasoning will be justified and this will come to fruition soon.
