Wonderful read. Thin places are real.
Love the concept of thin places....where natural and supernatural realms are felt/sensed.I noticed these before I knew the term “thin place”. I’ve experienced them and it’s so cool....even if the moments are fleeting.I will say the book kinda repeats itself.....but maybe that’s how it is supposed to read. After all it’s talking about the same thing...just in different settings.I enjoyed this book and would recommend it.

The intermingling of spiritual and material reality.
This is a remarkable book about the effect particular places can have on people. The places in question in this book are places where Celtic Christians over many centuries have found the membrane between the physical world, the emotional world and the spiritual world is particularly thin. In fact they are places where one can indeed move from the physical world into the spiritual world and back again. I remember when I went to Java (Indonesia) to live and teach as a young man I discovered a whole society in which people had a much stronger sense of spiritual reality and the inter-permeation of physical and spiritual reality. So many patterns of personal formation and education in our society train young minds to give their full attention to material reality and ignore spiritual reality even though family members and teachers may be religious people. This book is dedicated to helping people to learn to recognize that spiritual realms and realities are just a real as physical reality, and that people can learn how to watch, listen and perceive spiritual reality as clearly and authentically as material reality.

There is more to learn and experience
I have felt for years that there is a fine line between the physical and spiritual. Now, I know some vocabulary to explain this…thin places. God shows up in the fabric of the ordinary. I just need to pay attention.

A Place of Peace
Balzer writes in a wonderfully readable style. Thin Places calls me back again and again--I'm in my third reading now. The author makes wonderful connections between the worldview and practices of the early Celtic Christians and our world today. This book is a fine dose of peace, calm and potential in our often rocky, unsettling and seemingly floundering world.

Someone mentioned the idea of "Thin Places" to me and I got this book to look into it. This is a thoroughly enjoyable read full of pleasant stories and obviously written by an academically gifted person who loves her subject (and she understands the difference between N Ireland and Ireland - full marks to one American). I can't think of anyone who would not enjoy this sort of book.
