Worked great for me.
It worked in my yard well. It has kept the gophers away for several seasons. My neighbors have all the gophers now, and they stop when they get in range of this. Make sure you take the battery out annually and clean the interior, and it will last many years. Also, you have to be certain to get it into firm ground so the thump penetrates distance. I bought on for my xxxxx, and he did not use it properly, and would soak the ground around it the next day, defeating how the system.

Not the best for all applications.
The fist thing to point out with this solar charging devise is that a good unshaded sun area with a southern exposure for a good charge of the batteries. If this isn't available don't buy it! My exposure is good and the unit is charging and operating just fine. Since installing the unit the Moles have come right to the edge of my property but are not coming any closer. I have found that these units, both the solar and battery alone units need to be spaced closer then any of the manufactures say. I think this is because of soil type more than anything. I just wish they would tell you what you can expect for different soil types and stop the practice of giving the best of what that they think it will work. I wanted to use the solar unit because getting batteries and replacing them every 3 or 4 monthes can get expensive as well remembering when to check to see if they need replacing. Yes the units works but I have two problems with it. The unit is ugly and you don't dare place it anyware that you have to mow! Actually this isn't the biggest of my problems with it, the buzzing noise(not as noticeable with the battery models) every 15 seconds This is not a natural sound in nature and when your're outside in your area of paradise you should only hear the natural world.

Smart Solar Mole Chaser
So I previously had a Smart Solar 0400RM1 Solar Mole and Gopher Chaser. It lasted about 2 years and did the job. What I found was that once you have moles/gophers, these things won't get rid of them. But they usually leave in teh winter, and if you ahve it in place in spring, it will prevent them from coming back.Anyway, I had the Smart Solar and it worked for a coupel years and finally gave up. So I ordered another one, but what came from Amazon was "Solar Powered Mole Repeller" from HLA. This thing looked similar, thought the stake was little longer and thinner, but it only lasted about 2 weeks before dying. I don't recommend it. Get the Smart Solar instead.

Wasted Money
Complete waste of money. The moles still dig mounds about 2 feet from the device. In order to keep the moles out of your yard, place them on a grid approximately 2 feet apart. That is just about as attractive as mole hills. I bought 4 items and they all still make the buzzing sound. I guess moles are deaf and cannot hear the sound. It really doesn't seem to bother them much.

Definitely works - when one failed, the moles came back
I used these last year, and they seemed to work. We had moles (or gophers or voles or whatever, something digging tunnels and eating plants), i stuck these in the garden, and there were no more tunnels. This year, i have some new raised beds, and i bought a few more of these. The range is nothing like what the packaging claims, but with one in each 9x15 bed, i was tunnel-digger-free... until one failed. It stopped making its annoying beeeeeeeeeep, and within 48 hours there were tunnels in that bed (and only that bed), chewed up plants, etc. So i bought a new one, replaced the dead one, and no more tunnels. So yes, it really does work, at least one whatever pesky subterranean mammals are in my yard. I'd give five stars except, well, one broke within weeks of installation, which is disappointing.

These things actually work
You can hear the buzz. We bought some like these a couple of years ago and while others have met sad demises at the hands (or blades) of various lawnmowers, the ones that are protected can still be heard buzzing periodically. We had terrible mole problems. Our lawn looked like a map of some bizarre subway system. I tried the milky spore, but our moles just became vegetarians and attacked the roots of the grass and bushes. Then we installed these things. The moles from the front moved to the back, so we installed more and no more problem. We bought the next batch and plan to place them in better locations where they'll be safe from marauding lawn mowers, but I can recommend the little buzzers. For us, they work!

They DO work. Be tolerant that they don't last long.
I have been using these for years, and the noise really does get rid of the mole problem in my yard. You will read many reviews that they break or don't last long; these statements are true, so deal with it. These have a typical AA rechargable battery that you can replace. All rechargable batteries (AA, iPhone, Toyota Prius) have a limited life, so deal with it. Also, my experience after using these for many years is that they only last one to two years before breaking (leaks and water gets in, buzzer breaks, internals corrode), so deal with it. Recycle the metal stake, then you buy another one. No chemicals, no constant treatments like insect control or fertilizer. It' just $20, which costs less than chemical repellants. Reduction of two stars for breaking all the time.
