Im not usually a reviewer but I bought this a long time ago and I'm only here because I finally came to purchase a replacement. I bought this thing for maybe 30 bucks or so and I will say there has been no competition for this mount I've used this mount for for years and years and I cannot say I've always been kind and gentle and oh the road trips all the kids pulling at it passengers I'm outright constantly amazed at how good this mount was I brag about it all the time. Finally the suction (older model) gave up and I looked and looked for another mount system to attach the phone piece to. One day while cleaning it my son accidentally took a shower with it as I'd left it to dry and had the auto piece reattached so it took a shower. Sat in a drawer again no one was kind beating it around (while I waited to get a new mounting piece.) One day I found a compatible one hooked it back up worked like new another few years. I'll also add I didn't buy a new one because the old one still worked and I saw no need in retiring it. But FINALLY It just gave up today and I don't blame it it more than did it's job for way longer and theough things it shouldn't have so I feel like it had every right to finally give up. But now I come to replace it and I see the price of a new one and I cannot afford to do that right now unfortunately and that makes me sad because I wouldn't want any other one and I'll probably hate anything else woth a passion because of how good this one has been to me. So if you have the money I promise this is more than worth it on all fronts. I really did put this mount through hell and it took it in stride! No lie I'm tempted to give it a funeral. It had a whole life nothing lasts like that nowadays surely not something so seamlessly automatic, fully articulating, one touch. And the old model (this may have been a bug but I adored it) would store battery so it could work unplugged long spans of time it was absolutely unrivaled. So I write this review as it's eulogy one day I'll be buying this again.

I was skeptical. I figured the clamping mechanism would fail in short order or the coil would quit. Basing this on the price of the unit.This thing is 3 years old and still clamps and charges like a champ. Do consider that this is inside a semi and I'm using it repeatedly throughout 12-13 hour shifts.Charges through every case I've had except this thicker magsafe I just got. The cups sticks to almost anything - dashboard, whatever.Will be changing cases so I can keep using it.

Great for large trucks. Suctions to windshield nicely and worked properly for over a year before became prone to falling when going over any uneven roads.

I bought a few different models of these holder/chargers. I wanted to compare the pros and cons of each unit side by side. This was the winner by far. First it charges great. I don’t let my phone get too low but I stream music and use gps when driving. My phone is always fine with the charge. The two main pros that made me decide on this charger were 1) The fact that you can operate the holder with or without the car on. This came into play way more than I thought it would. With the others you shut your car off and need to get your phone out, you have to turn your ignition back on to open the holder. This one opens and closes without your car power on. 2) The mounting options that came with this mount are better than the others. I don’t use suction cups. The one that came with this unit is pretty impressive. Even on my textured dash it held strong until I took it off. It came with the plastic disk that sticks to your dash if needed. The option that impressed me the most was the vent mount. I absolutely hate vent mounts. They never seem to work right and always want to fall out. The vent mount with this unit actually tightens to your vent with a wing nut type plastic bolt. It has held strong and changed my view on vent mounts. Holds my phone at the angle I want for ease of view. I bought another of these for my fiancé. She really likes it as well. If my car caught fore today I would order another one of these without a doubt. Time will tell if it lasts. But I would buy another one. If your looking for a good car mount; try this one.

All in all I'm very happy with this mount, and it makes for a great replacement for my old magnetic mount. The product feels solid, not cheap at all. The moving parts all move smoothly and lock in place nicely. Even with the bigger phone and a case, the mount stayed in position when using the vent clip while driving over bumps and rough roads. You may need to crank the tightening knob on the ball mount to make sure it stays in place, but I've had to do that with other mounts as well so I'm not surprised. When using the dash mount, it stayed in place even when extended fully.What's nice is that the automatic open/close will work even while the mount is unplugged. I haven't had this long enough to confirm that it'll last 5 months on a charge, but I don't expect that will be an issue. As mentioned in the product description, this does not come with a car charger, so you will need to buy one separately if you don't have one already. It's not specifically stated but for those who might be wondering, no it will not charge your phone if it's not plugged in. Only the open/close function works without being connected to a charger.I noticed in the Q&A that someone mentioned that the mount will block the buttons on Pixel 3/3 XL phones. I tested this with the 4 and 4 XL, and it only blocked the volume down button on the smaller Pixel 4. Both phones had the power button easily accessible, so I wouldn't worry about that. It's also worth pointing out that this will not fast charge Pixel phones (go figure). That being said, I didn't have any issue using the vertical adjustment to get both phones charging wirelessly.
