Speed Picking - Frank Gambale Book/Online Audio

Frank Gambale, the father of sweep picking wrote this book in 1985. He called his picking "speed picking" before the term "sweep picking" was even coined. So basically this is the original, first blueprint of what sweeping is. Now, having just started playing guitar now in 2021, naturally this technique is over 30 years old and there are tons of books, videos and DVDs on sweeping. So this is not the only resource to learn sweeping, nor is it the "best" or most extensive. Its 35 pages long by the way. So why did I buy it, and why you should consider buying it? Well... 1) its really really good. If you just learn whats in here, you are well on your way to sweeping like a guitar god. 2) its a bit of a collectors item, and if you are serious about sweeping, you should definitely own a copy. 3) it covers a lot of ground: pentatonics, arpeggios, triads, 3 note per string scalar runs, speed-optimized sweeping licks, and audio clips. And some good amount of extended chords for jazzy, fusiony sort of sounds.Happy sweeping!p.s. The audio clips are awesome. You can hear Frank talk about important aspects of sweeping, and play the examples in different speeds. The audio player also allows you to change speed, pitch, balance etc.

I could not agreed with the reviews for this book, i was not familiar with franks work, since i've been mostly into metal shredding guitar players like jeff loomis and chris broderick from nevermore. But I've been lately intrigue by sounds of fusion guitar playing(I think i'm stepping out of the metal/shredding phase). And what better place to start but with frank Gambale? The lessons that are included in the book are so good, that now I've use the speed picking( or also known as economy picking) in my licks and phrases almost exclusively. The picking technique has really help me when I'm descending from the guitar fretboard. Any other fusion guitar player recommendation would be greatly appreciated.

So far the book has proven to give the student extra insight into details as to how to pick the guitar strings more effectively.That's why I brought the book.I was and am hoping to get more speed and accuracy as a speed picker.I certainly hope this book really does the trick.I noticed how most guitar players including myself are entirely concerned with what the left hand is doing.I recently noticed that the right is just as important and that's just why I purchased this book.I hope to have more to say in behalf of the author as soon as I'm finished studying the contents of this book.Thanks Jerome Mclaughlin If there are other books or someone out there has more information on the subject of speed picking or right hand technique please feel free to contact me.

This is a great book to develop the "economy picking" (A.K.A. Sweep Picking) technique. Frank is an amazing teacher and one of the greatest guitarists in the planet. He shows how to use the picking technique with many exercises covering three-note per string scales and arppegios. The CD is recorded at several speeds including super fast. This is a book you won't regret if your goal is to improve your picking technique and develop economy picking.

The book is very good, the picking technique can be increase very fast. The practices are excellents and easy. I'm very fatisfied with the Speed Picking of Frank Gambale

Man lernt mit diesem Buch genau die Technik, die Frank Gambale jeden Tag benutzt. Sehr hilfreich, wenn auch anspruchsvoll. Die beiliegende CD lässt einen das Gelernte überprüfen. Definitiv brauchbar für Leute, die Speed-Picking erlernen wollen - egal ob für Jazz oder Rockmusik. Gut erklärt und auf das wesentliche beschränkt (keine Bilder oder sonst was) mit Tabulaturen und Noten.Allerdings sollte man sich auf einen langen - auf einen seehr langen Weg bereit machen, bis man so gut wird wie Gambale (wenn überhaupt).Trotzdem ein wirklich gutes Buch - klare Empfehlung!

Ottimo metodo.

DVDと勘違いしていたため、映像が映らないので、あれやこれやでえらく余分な苦労をしてしまいました。（DVD版はMONSTER LICKS AND SPEED PICKINGで検索できるようです）CD版とはいえかなり内容が絞られており、かえってとっつきやすいのかもしれません。まだ、練習を始めるに至ってはおりませんが、身につけばかなり、音楽領域が広がると思います。私の英語力でも何とかヒアリングできました。　ハンマオン、スタッカート　とかあっそうーかと感じることが何回かありました。以上感想まで

数少ないギャンバレファンはもとより、スウィープ＆エコノミーピッキング（ギャンバレ本人はスピードピッキングと仰ってます）に磨きをかけたい輩には、手にとって間違いない良書です！内容ですが、CDが付属します。まずこれが有難い！全ての例題フレーズをギャンバレ本人がプレイしています。巷によくある、執筆が本人、プレイはスタジオミュージシャンなんていうものではありません！有難い♪次に、例題フレーズひとつひとつに、これまたギャンバレ本人の口頭によるアドバイスが収録されています。私、英語わかりませんが、熱意は感じました。更に内容ですが、のっけから、こりゃ弾けません！なんてフレーズは出てきません。流石、元GIT講師。丹念に初歩の初歩から、高難易度のものへと、スマートにいざなってくださいます。最後に、途中と終わりに併せて３曲、小曲が収められています。もちろんギャンバレ本人の演奏です。どれも１分ほどの曲ですが、単純にカッコイイです！単なるアルペジオフレーズだったりするのですが、ギャンバレの手にかかると、洗練されたアーバンな響きに！不思議です。素晴らしいです。薄い本ですが、心配いりません。厳選されたフレーズです、量ではありません！とは言っても、弾きこなすには、かなりの時間と労力、それに情熱が必要です。そして、時間、労力、情熱をかける価値のある本だと判断します！大げさではなく、ギターが好きで仕方なく、スピードピッキングの腕を磨きたい方にとっては、後々、お宝になるのではないでしょうか。スウィープ本を数々買っていらっしゃる方・・・。本家で終わりにしましょう。

個人的にmonster licksに比べると内容も濃く難易度も高く実践的な内容になっているように感じます。単なるシーケンスパターンよりもメロディックなフレーズが多く、フランク自身の曲中でも使っていそうなフレーズもあって参考になります。これにこそ映像を付けて欲しかった！
