Great retinol product. Not harsh when used sparingly (one pump on dry, clean face followed with gentle moisturizer) and makes my face look and feel great the next day. Use in the evening before bed for best results. And avoid sun or use sunscreen since retinol makes your skin more vulnerable to burning!

Love how affordable and good Cerave products are, so decided to try this as a "dipping my toes in the water" type of retinol product to help reduce fine lines and acne scars. After using this for a few months, here are some tips I'd like to share:- DO NOT start nightly if you've never used a retinol product before! Your skin needs time to adapt to new routines. I would recommend using once a week, then twice, etc., eventually you can use this safely every night.- It does not specify, but I DO NOT recommend using this during the day, or if you really, really want to, please use sunscreen. This is because retinols are not as effective under sunlight and it causes your skin to be more sensitive to UV light, which will cause more damage long-term.- This works pretty slow compared to other retinols. I found it to be quite mild, so don't expect your ice pick scars or enlarged pores to show any difference any time soon. You really have to create a consistent skincare routine to see change.- DO NOT stack your Vitamin C, AHA/BHA toners, and acne products with this. I made this mistake when I first started using the serum and woke up with sensitive red skin with breakouts. Now I only use Vitamin C in the mornings, apply benzoyl peroxide/salicylic acid as needed when not using this serum, and tone with AHA/BHA a couple of times in the week during the day- You should still moisturize, this serum isn't a replacement for face cream. Your skin will only create more oil if it doesn't feel hydrated, so if you have oily/combo skin, find a non-greasy light moisturizer, but don't skip it!It's not a miraculous holy grail type of product, but I found that with consistency and patience, there are some visible results, so I will keep buying since it's non-prescription and not too expensive. My skin looks more smooth now, but there are still scars, so I think I will incorporate micro-needling into my regimen as well. This is a good product to add to your skincare routine, gentle enough to start using in your 20s. I wish I had known about lighter retinol products sooner - I used to think it was only for older people and that they are always harsh.

I recently decided to introduce retinol into my skincare routine, and love my other cerave products so figured I would look to them first. I wasn’t disappointed. This serum has quickly minimzed dark spots from previous breakouts and has actually helped smooth the keratosis pilaris bumbs on my cheeks too (not gone but definitely less rough). I never expected any miracles but I have definitely noticed a more even skin tone since adding this to my nighttime routine. It is pretty lightweight, absorbs quickly thought it does leave a bit of a sheen so best to use at night. It’s an effective and affordable choice.

The first order of this facial serum I received was damaged; the box was smushed and there was no seal on the item. I requested a return/replacement of the same item, hoping it was just a one time fluke, and indeed it was. The replacement I received arrived fairly quickly, the packaging was much better and in good shape. Upon opening the box I was glad to find the product didn't look as though it had been used this time.As for the serum itself, I've not been using it for very long, BUT it does actually seem to be making a difference on my skin already! The fine lines around my mouth and between my eyebrows are a little less noticeable- to me at least. My pores look a bit smaller too, which is nice. And I really like that it doesn't leave an oily sheen to my skin like some similar products I have tried in the past; whenever a product makes me look so oily and shiny, it makes me only want to use it at night. And while I do think products like this are best applied at night anyhow, at least if it's something one would only want to use once a day, I like that I can use this one in the morning if I prefer to. It feels good on my skin and I actually feel a little more confident with it.Note: A little goes a long way. No need to go wild with it. I recommend trying a pea sized amount to begin with, give yourself a minute to let it absorb and THEN if you feel like you need a little more, find what works for you.And lastly I'll add that I'm always a little skeptical of retinol products when I look at the ingredient list and 'retinol' is not within the first 5 ingredients. So I was a little hesitant to try this because it's like the 16th or 17th ingredient! I have avoided trying products in the past solely because of things like that. BUT I gave it a go because I've happily been using Cera Ve face wash and moisturizers (facial and body) for quite a while now and I do trust the brand. *I swear that ever since I stopped my old & complicated multi-step skin-care regimen (that consisted of 8,000 different products and brands), to a simple and clean Cera Ve routine, my skin has thanked me for it! I think it's one of those "less is more" things.*Anyway, I am very glad I gave it a chance and didn't let the first product arriving damaged deter me from trying it altogether, as I'm often wont to do.Geez. This is like, the longest review I've ever written. I guess I just want some people to know that it *can* sometimes be helpful to your skin when you go the simple and gentle route.
