SO FAR, SO GOOD, We'll See in a Year! BEWARE UPON OPENING!
So far I like this far better than what's sold by Office Depot/Max or Staples. Seems to be hearty and much better constructed. Size availability is incredible, got just what I needed. Good selection. Although I placed mine on carpet, I ordered the type for wood, as I didn't want all those irksome little needles digging about. The pad has stayed put with no shifting at all. Very pleased with purchase.CAUTION - Although the box is marked on one side, you may miss the warning as I did. Be VERY CAREFUL when removing the band around the mat. Irrespective of the claim that they ship flat, they do NOT. They roll this thing and band it. When cutting the band, the mat springs open with force... almost cut me. I was lucky. BEWARE!

READ THIS BEFORE OPENING
I'm using on hardwood floors and it seems to work fine. I've had it about a week - so far so good. It was pretty flat on day one and very flat on day two. (make sure the textured side is up) It is a slick - perhaps slicker than any mat I've used previously - but I was prepared for that based on other reviews. I'd buy the product again if I needed a mat for a hard surface.AS A PSA - I WANT TO EXPAND INFO ON HOW TO OPEN THE PRODUCT SO YOU DON'T GET HURTThere are instructions in the box - which I didn't find until I'd unrolled the product. I didn't get hurt (largely because I saw warnings in the reviews). It's easy to see how folks have been injured. Once the band is released the product expands with force. More than you'd expect. The instructions state:Extreme Care is Required When Removing or Cutting the Restraining Bands1) Place the rolled mat on the floor and restrain the mat in its rolled state while the straps/bands are cut or removed.2) Gently allow the pressure to release by letting the mat unroll slowly ensuring the mat is restrained at arms length until it's fully open.I made the mistake of leaving it on one end (having it upright). Don't do what I did. Have a good grip on the mat. If I had to do it again, I'd have both hands on the mat and have someone else cut the band.

High quality polycarbonate floor mat
The item (47" x 59") was bought as a chair mat to cover my new hard floor, which is made of "luxury vinyl tile (LVT)" that looks like hardwood planks. LVT looks great, but is less durable than real hardwood. So a floor covering to protect it from the grind of wheeled office chair is the sensible thing to do.In terms of chair mat, there are generally 2 material choices and 2 surface designs. Material choices: (1) PVC or (2) polycarbonate. I've used both before I replaced the carpet with LVT. PVC is cheaper but far less durable and not environmentally friendly (non-recyclable). I threw it away after a year and switched to polycarbonate on my carpet floor, which lasted for over 10 years before it started cracking up. I think polycarbonate is a far better investment although it's more expensive than PVC.The second is surface design choices: (1) one side with spikes and the other side smooth, or (2) one side slightly textured and the other side smooth (no spikes). Obviously (1) should be used for carpet floor, spike side down. (2) is for hard floor, and smooth side DOWN. On my new hard floor, I started with textured side down without looking at the instruction. After using the smooth side on top with my wheeled office chair for just a couple of days, scratch marks from the wheels became visible. I was disappointed and decided to read the instruction. Then I flipped the cover (as I should have to start with) with the textured side UP. Everything became perfect. The textured surface is scratch-resistant, or at least hides the scratches really well. It's non-reflective so I can see (and admire) my new hard floor quite a bit better without the glare and flare that were from the smooth surface before.Another bonus of using textured surface UP is that, when out of the box, the floor mat was rolled up with the smooth surface inside. So unfurling it with smooth surface UP tends to leave the edges curled up slightly. There's a bit annoying. After I flipped it over, the mat just seemed to "hug" the floor.Last comment: Please read the instruction even before you unfurl the mat! Keep your distance during the unfurling! You'll know what I mean when you do it. I highly recommend this item!

Great mat for puzzles
I know this is not the traditional use- but I bough this for doing puzzles. It looks nice on the floor (you see the carpet though), if firm and smooth and very study so you can lean on it. I can slide the whole thing under the couch when not in use.

Be super careful unboxing and unrolling, it cut me bad!
Good product, very dangerous packaging. The warning / directions for how to safely unpackaged the rolled up mat (printed in black and white) the fell out of the box when I pulled it out. As I started to remove the plastic wrap from around the center of the rolled up mat, it instantly sprung open with my fingers resting on the sharp edges. It cut me life a knife multiple fingers. I have bandages on three of my four fingers. I really wish I had seen the warning before hurting myself on something so stupid.

Durable!
The media could not be loaded. I’m building out my home office since I’m teleworking these days. I bought this mat to protect my old hardwood floors. One side is smooth and one side is textured. The smooth side goes down. The texture gives your chair wheels a little grip so you don’t go flying off the mat with a little push. The 47x59 is a nice size. The mat is thick and feels really durable. It came out of the packaging rolled with some plastic shrink wrap. I laid the mat on the floor, pulled the end of the shrink wrap and stood back. The mat unrolled at a distance until there was no more wrap then, SNAP! The mat popped open. It’s such thick mat I’d recommend keeping your distance and not cutting the shrink wrap because the mat will rebound open and could hurt someone.Definitely recommended

Shipped flat.
My biggest concern was that the mat would be shipped curled, and stubbornly stay curled even in use. I've had that happen in the past. So imagine my pleasant surprise when the package arrived -- a huge, utterly flat cardboard box. The mat is shipped flat, so curling isn't an issue at all. It's easy to unbox, slipped right under my chair, and seems to be stable and sturdy. And utterly uncurled. Happy me!

Doesnt stay in place
This product is of good qualify, only problem is that it doesnt stay in place hence 3 stars since its not cheap, I had much cheaper mat that did not slide at all on same floor. I have to adjust it daily as it slides all over the hardwood floor. I also slipped on it twice already as it moves quite easily so be careful when you put your step anywhere close to the edge of the mat. Wish it was a bit thicker or had some sort of adhesion at the bottom. I am keeping it but will have to put some double sided tape or something at the bottom to keep it in place.

Shipped flat, made in UK
I ordered the 35x47 mat in Nov 2020. It shipped flat with no problems/damage, in a cardboard 'sleeve'. Started using it instantly. The mat has smooth side on the bottom and a textured side on the top. The sticker on the mat says it's made in the UK.I don't have calipers but using my ruler it appears to be 1-1.5 mm thick.I'm actually using it on commercial low pile carpet. It's easy enough to roll around (easier than the carpet!). When I first put it on the carpet, before I put my chair on the mat, it was easy to get the mat to slip around. But, once I put my chair it it it was semi-secure (e.g. I can still make it slip if I start twisting my foot on the mat). When I go to sit down normally, or anytime I'm actually sitting in my chair, the mat stays in place.

Cracked within months
Bought this because it was an Amazon Basics which we normally have good luck with. It comes rolled up which we didn't expect. It took months for the edges to "unfurl" and not be a tripping hazard. As soon as that happened, we noticed cracks forming underneath the chair. The first Chair Mat we bought (from another company) showed up in a FLAT state and lasted many years. Maybe 5 or 7 before it started to crack. This one cracked within months. Not good.It should be mentioned that the mat is on top of carpet (but very short carpet) and the mat is designed for this.

Great for my desired use!
I wanted this mat for something a little less orthodox. I had a vinyl table protector on a wooden table that just looked cheap. Clear glossy plastic that showed ripples and wrinkles from every angle and never laid flat. I finally got rid of it and tried to find better. But all the reviews for other products had the same complaints. So I started thinking outside the box and finally found hard floor desk chair protectors. This one by Amazon Basics was decently priced and was bigger than I needed so the overly rounded corners wouldn’t be an issue.I’m so glad I convinced my wife to let me try it. The polycarbonate sprung right to near perfect flatness the moment I unwrapped it, unlike vinyl protectors. I laid in on the table and used a sharpie held to the table’s edge to trace my size. Then was able to cut fairly straight lines with aviation snips and sanded the edges to lose any sharpness. The end result is fantastic and it’s super durable. It lets the white of the table top show without me having to worry about scratches and stains from my kids. If, down the road, the kids damage this top in any way, it’s much easier to replace than the refinish the wooden tabletop. I also feel like the only way they could damage it is some sort of staining liquid that I didn’t clean off quickly. So I think this will hold up very well. I can only image it would work well for wheels of a desk chair as well.

This chair mat works great
I use a 3/4 inch plywood which was a leftover from a reno I did a while ago. I use it to protect the carpet where my computer desk is setup. My computer chair was wearing out the plywood and would cause it to shed layers and form dents the size or the rollers on my chair.I found this mat which was reasonably affordable compared to brands. Its thin but surprisingly robust and provide a solid support. I chose polycarbonate over vinyl because the edge doesn't curl up and I don't have to set books to straighten the mat. When I set up my daughter's computer desk, I bought the exact same one for her knowing it would protect my laminate.I hope this helps.
