I like this mouthpiece a lot
I like this mouthpiece a lot. I'm not a beginner, I've been playing horn for 50 years. I was skeptical when I purchased but it works very well, allows for a full sound with plenty of punch. I can still play the sensitive passages, as well as playing high passages without feeling as much fatigue due to mouthpiece pressure. The inner cup is U-shaped, not a straight funnel, with a large bore (4.5), but well within the range of French horn mouthpieces I have seen and used. The exterior appearance is not directly representational of the interior shape. I had to move to a size smaller than I thought initially, the rim is thicker than I was used to, plus it has a more gentle inside curve resulting in the mouthpiece feeling 'bigger' than the actual measured dimension. Consequently I went to a #6 ratherthan the 5.5 although I liked the 5.5 a lot. Mouthpieces are a very individual thing, your experience may be very different. I am using this on an older German horn with a medium to large bell throat, it may or may not work with horns that have a smaller throat.

Denis Wick 4 (18.00 MM Inner Diameter)
I've played on this mouthpiece for about 2 weeks at the time of this review and I can say this is nicely crafted mouthpiece. Mouthpiece choice is very personal and what I may have experienced from my mouthpiece may not be the same as yours. I come from a Verus H1 17.75 and the shallow cup shape of the mouthpiece just wasn't doing it for me. So looked for a mouthpiece that had a deep cup and a large rim diameter. The CupThe Cup is not related to how the mouthpiece looks. (I got some weird looks from my fellow hornists when I came in with this mouthpiece lol). Even though it looks very bowlish its actually a steep U-shaped cup with extra mass constructed towards the shank. 𝘍𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘮𝘺 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦, the borderline funnel mouthpiece allows for great versatility, and the extra mass gives more stability in the high register (Only if the size of the mouthpiece compliments one's lips.)The RimThe Model 4 Mouthpiece I got is rather large. The rim is also wider than expected when coupled with the way the piece rounds into the cup, the mouthpiece feels a little bit bigger than what it really is. Once I broke it in though, the mouthpiece didn't feel so engulfing anymore and every session really does feel like a good work out.Overall, this mouthpiece has complimented my sound quite a bit. Coming from a shallow mouthpiece meant my sound opened up and I was getting more out of each session. However, note this is my experience. I had an idea of what mouthpiece I should get with the help of a horn instructor. This mouthpiece will do its job as a well-crafted mouthpiece and what you can take out of this mouthpiece is completely based on choosing the right size.

Looks wierd, plays great
Love it. Nice full tone, great slurs, great for playing really loud as well as really soft, focused sound. An all around excellent mouthpiece.

If you are trying to find the right mouthpiece this should be part of your search
As good as a Holton Farkas DC. Really just a preference thing. However, out of 20 mouthpieces I've tried this and two of the Holton Farkas line are my favorites.
