Q: Are all the items stainless steel or are some made of plastic?

They are not plastic. There's the rubber on the stopper but the rest is metal. I am not sure if stainless or not. I will say that the stopper is a pain and if you bump it, it slides off and it only works if placed just right. If you want a good stopper, I would not buy this pack.

Q: Does the stopper fit into the strainer? One replied yes, the other no. What is the real deal on this?

No it does not. It sits on top and you could potentially use it to block the water but easily knocked off. You have to remove the strainer for the stopper to fit in and do the correct job! But I really love this set!!

Q: Can you put the mesh strainer in the garbage disposal opening along with the disposal stopper to strain dish water?

You can but the disposal stopper does not fit well enough to keep the water from draining.

The all metal one still works fine but the one with the rubber ring fell apart within days

These are so specific because of the rectangular shaped spindles (not round), which is what I needed. I hunted for ages to find them. They are perfect, the rubber bits can be slipped off for cleaning, and put back. They have made a total difference to the convenience of using our old double sink, the old ones were perished and useless, and modern ones do not fit. Delighted every day.
