Best headlamp I have owned.
I have used one of these almost daily for years. I love the different brightness settings and the flip up/down flood lens. Very convenient. I also like that a few seconds after selecting the "mode", it will shut off if you press the button again, instead of having to cycle through all the modes to turn it off. I LOVE the angle adjustment mechanism and includes (optional) top head strap for keeping this solidly in place during intense activity. It WILL NOT keep dropping until it is pointing at your feet like basically every other headlamp out there. Part of this is the design with the battery pack separate in the back. This keeps it very evenly balanced so it wont slide down with all the weight on your forehead. The elastic on the straps has held up for years with no issues. I have used this for overnight 200+ mile relay races in the mountains of NH, taking the dog out after dark in my back yard, and working on my motorcycle engine. Great all around.Minor cons: Battery life is great in low intensity settings, less so in bright modes. I use rechargeable so not a big issue, but it takes 3 batteries and you need to have four to put in the recharge, so kind of annoying, but that's not really a product fault. Setting the strobe frequency requires reading the manual. Not something you can easily mess around and figure out.Overall this is a great product and I just ordered a second one for when my current one finally gives out... if it ever does.

Great lamp. Used it on a long night hike ...
Great lamp. Used it on a long night hike and with the lithium AA batteries it still had a lot of juice left after the entire night of hiking. I didn't need it on full brightness the whole time. But when I did need full power - wow was it bright. One late night brook crossing was made much easier with this light. That being said - for more normal conditions I'd use a smaller headlamp which would be much lighter and also have a red LED. But if you're doing any serious hiking after dark this is wonderful. They should just build-in the 3rd overhead strap as it's definitely needed and frankly makes a light this size much more comfortable. As some other reviewer mentioned the little plastic rings for attaching the overhead strap are really easy to break and I did in-fact break one, however - only the tip and was able to use it anyway.

Price worth it
This replaced the same model from 12 yrs ago i lost thia fall. Same quality if not a better bulb with improved LED technology. Worth the price.

Great headlamp for camping and hiking.
I've used a number of different headlamps. This is my favorite. It's bright, easy to use with gloves and simple. I like that it has a flip down lens that quickly and easily changes from a tight distant beam to a diffuse area light.

Tricky to use, heavy
Well, I've used many Petzl headlamps over the years. I got this one for its 3 AA power, which of course means brightness. It delivers on the brightness. Having used it around the house now for a few months here are my thoughts:Pluses: brightness. end of pluses.Minuses:- tricky to figure out (first time I've had to read a manual to figure out a headlamp!)- uncomfortable to operate. small pointy switch is almost painful to operate. very heavy and bulky.Occasionally nice to have a light this bright, but I wouldn't take it backpacking. Would opt for one of my AAA Petzls instead.

Great headlamp, well worth the money.
Great product, well worth the looney. I've had my original one for 3 years and it's still going strong. Rugged, versatile, dependable.

Very Bright and Functional
I have used this headlamp and it's predecessor version for a number of years now. The battery life on high is not good at all but it is very bright. There are two other settings that are adjustable so I wind up using it mostly on the medium setting which I had adjusted just above midway. I use rechargeables to reduce battery waste. The top headstrap is very helpful for trail running.

2 levels of very bright light
I love this headlamp for the price. 2 levels of brightness work very well. Could maybe use the redlight, but otherwise works great and is brighter than I expected.
