Works well
I already owned 3 soldering irons. I've had 2 forever, a Craftsman pistol type that will melt the North Pole when you pull the trigger (only good for big jobs), an old Radio Shack pencil type that takes forever to heat up, and anther pencil type I bought a few years ago from Amazon with an on/off button and a tiny temperature control dial. The latter worked for awhile but then the temperature dial became unreliable and cutting out.So I decided to search for yet another soldering iron. I just wanted a good, reliable iron with an on/off switch and temperature control. I use it for model railroading, mostly soldering wires to the track. This is a bit tricky because if the iron isn't the right temperature you wind up melting the plastic rail ties before the solder even melts. The temperature dial on this iron seems steady and accurate. The on/off switch is right on the grip. The tip is very fine for detailed work. There are not many extras with this kit but I was mostly looking for a good iron. It only has 1 tip; a spare would have been nice. I do like the bronze cleaning pad it came with; just one swipe knock off the carbon buildup. I've only had it a few weeks but so far am very pleased with it.Update: I forgot to mention the plug is 3 pronged (grounded). All my other irons are 2 pronged. I don't know why this had to have 3, but it's a bit inconvenient since I have and old house with a lot of 2 prong outlets. Sure, I can get an adapter but it's just an inconvenience.

Great for the money!
I've only used it for an electric guitar repair, but it worked great. I'm no pro and will likely not use it more than a few times a year. If I were a technician I might buy a higher quality iron, but this one is doing everything it should for me.

Basic, cheap soldering iron, works well, nice it has a temp setting, but very bad base.
Pros:Cheap!Points are standard, so replacements are many and cheap!Temp control, not bad.Cons:That gawd-awful base! The tiny round sticky pad on its underside does not hold on the surface of anything after a few times of taking the iron on and off the spring holder, and tips over along with iron and all. I did a hack that worked very well, though: I bought a set of marble glass coasters from Target and sticky Velcro bands from 3M, stuck one piece of Velcro band under the narrow part of the base (the base looks like an upside-down keyhole), stuck the other Velcro piece on the coaster after cleaning it well with 70% iso alcohol, then stuck the base to the coaster so that the sticky pad touches the coaster and so that the Velcro strips stuck to each other, and voilá! Worked perfectly. Even so that base is crap. So is the puny sponge that comes with it.Conclusion:Iron works well, the tiny case with brass shavings is a great addition and looks cute, and the base can be hacked to work, so I think it's great.

It’s terrible
Sucks doesn’t heat up and they tip broke on the 1st use . I’m not sure if it’s Amazon or the seller but it’s been 2 weeks and I’ve yet to get a refund.. thing literally lasted 4 mins after heating it up for a good 15 -30 mins to heat up . Temperature control is a lie the degrees are not accurate. Do not buy

Great little soldering kit
I haven't bought a soldering iron since the Radio Shack days. Those irons were big, clunky, smelly, and became heavily oxidized quickly. This one, however is great. I love the adjustable temperature dial and on-off switch. If you can remember, the old ones were one temperature and no switches at all. The fine tips work great for SMD soldering which would have been impossible with older irons. The holder sticks to the surface so well that it's hard to pull off sometimes. That's a big plus. I always hated how the holders fell over under the weight of the iron and cord. They were dangerous. I especially like the cleaning can instead of the sponge, even though the give you both. The can cleans the tips beautifully. They also tossed in some solder which was great because I have no idea where I left mine. All in all, this is a fantastic kit to get you soldering in no time.
