WHY the bad reviews? It's a fantastic TV.
Looking through the poor reviews on here, I wanted to balance this out a little. The main 'gripe' from several reviewers is the amount of light-bleed around the edges in widescreen (Black bars on the top and bottom). When you walk through the TV department, you're looking at these sets under bright lights so the TV's are set up to the most dynamic settings possible. Everything is on max. You won't notice this light-bleed in a really bright shop.My lounge isn't as brightly lit as the TV department in-store, so I dimmed down some settings and 90% of the light-bleed has gone. There's a small amount but nothing distracting, and nothing that I wouldn't expect to see on an equally priced alternative big brand. It's that simple. The picture is superb, the remote control is intuitive and the sound quality is great as a standalone. I ran my old TV through a Marantz high end receiver, and the sound of this TV obviously doesn't match that quality, but it's MORE than 'just good enough'. Like anything out of the box, you have to dial in certain things in order to get the best out of them for YOUR personal audio and visual tastes, and for what I paid for this TV, I really couldn't be happier.MY one and only 'gripe' ?? Amazon told me it has a 2 year warranty, while an answered question on here states a 5 year warranty. It's actually a 1 year warranty with the option to extend, but you would have to pay £4.50 per month after the 1st year. Deal breaker? Nope :-)

A match for the top of the range TV’s at 1/3 of the price.
I’ve had a lot of TV’s over the years and I’ve often fallen in to the trap of buying the highest spec’d TV I could find. I’m glad I didn’t with this TV. Looking at the 9PLA or Samsung 90R at 3 times the price of this TV, I found this TV next to them in a local Currys branch, and this 8600PLA was easily a match to the layman. Picture quality, brightness, contrast, blacks, the whole package was easily comparable to the higher end TV’s. It’s well documented that the LED local dimming feature can screw the quality especially in a dark environment so just turn it off in the Picture settings and you’re done.At 1/3 of the price. You won’t be disappointed.

Overall good picture, good sound and the Manu is not complicated
Very happy with this LG TV, the picture quality is very good also the speakers are good. The only thing which is not very good is when the TV is on the stand it leans little to the left. But if it's on the wall it's like the wall is made for that TV.

Those lights at the bottom of the screen!!!
I have the same problem others are seeing. Even when turning off the localised dimming (which does help) there’s a bank of lights all across the bottom of the TV when viewing something with top and bottom black bars. I think I’m going to have to request a refund, which is such as shame because ‘everything else’ about this TV is 5 stars. But as another review stated, once you’ve seen this bank of lights, you always see them.

Great tv
Great picture, lovely bright colours, software easy to use. First thing to remember is you need to calibrate it, it comes on eco settings. And to make the most of it use quick menu to change according to what your watching and how light or dark the room is, but once you get the hang of it it's great. Nearly 3 weeks in and I still catch myself commenting on how real the skin looks on characters or how many wrinkles the news presenter actually has! Lol

I wish I read all the reviews. To all movie fans and screen geeks – avoid this TV!
The SHORT answer:To all movie fans and screen geeks – avoid this TV! If the edge lights in dark scenes won’t bother you then maybe this TV is fine. But for £630 (at time of writing 21/02/2020) consumers should expect better. The LONG answer:Much like another Amazon review, issues occur when viewing dimly lit and dark ambient scenes.Edge lights at the side of the screen can project random light and sometimes vertical shafts across the screen. The effect is subtle and difficult to capture with a phone-camera so I can only illustrate this with extreme examples (see pictures in review).Once you have seen these edge lights you cannot un-see them. They pop up every now and then to say Hi! Just as your favourite scene in a movie reaches it’s climax. The sidelights create a banded variation in brightness across the screen.Independent reviewers have rated this screen highly. It’s even a “Which? Best Buy”. I can only assume it wasn’t tested thoroughly under all circumstances, or reviewers received better quality panels.Pros:My initial impressions with this TV were great. Very vibrant colour and good contrast for an IPS screen in well-lit scenes. With LGs AI features turned OFF, the picture is outstanding. For watching general broadcast television, The News or your average documentary this TV is fine.Good sound quality (with the AI off), good dynamic range for this mid-priced 55” TV.Cons:TV works best with AI features OFF, but it is one of the main selling points? So what are you paying for?Annoying side panel lights in dark scenes. Particularly distracting when watching widescreen movies with black-bars at the top and bottom of the screen. Can ruin the “ambience” in darkly lit scenes and games.LGs motion smoothing tech ‘TruMotion’ – turn it off. It is glitchy when viewing 4K, visual artefacts (a cloud of blurry pixels) chase fast moving objects around the screen.AISound – turn it off. During calibration, the AISound preview appears to improve sound quality, particularly bass. However in practice dialog fluctuates wildly in volume. You’ll be reaching for the subtitle button.Smart remote with a neat “point-and-click” feature, which is very intuitive. Unfortunately the rest of the remote is uninspired and the menus are clunky wasting this great feature.
