Awesome Cup Worth Ordering
At my mom's house there is an over-sized coffee mug I use for putting ice and various soft drinks in which is awesome because normal sized coffee mugs are RIDICULOUSLY small. I don't drink 8 nor 12 ounces of anything. I also didn't want a tall mug because they are harder to clean. The only unfortunate thing is that this was the only decent mug available on amazon that matched my needs. At first I was settling for this mug because after I order it, I went to a local Safeway and found out they had a couple large mugs at their in-store Starbucks too for around the same price. When I finally received this mug i was SUPER impressed, and I am glad I ordered this rather than buying the ones at Starbucks. First off, it's really sturdy - could definitely survive normal clumsy handling such as accidental knocking into the sink. A 2 feet drop to the floor though, I'm not so sure. Secondly, because it's an over-sized mug, it's easier to clean the wide and spacious insides. It's wideness also makes it harder to knock over compared to tall glasses because it's more grounded. Third, it has more than one uses: you can use it to bake, you can microwave it, refrigerate it, and freeze it. I didn't buy it for these extra attributes, so my review may not be helpful to you in this area. Still, it's nice to know that if a situation came up where I needed to make French onion soup, I know I would be alright. Fourth, it comes with a cover. Now another review said that the lid was functionally crappy and he might be right. I'm immune to coffee so I don't drink it; and even if I did drink it, I don't like my coffee hot and without a lot of milk and sugar. My first impression is that it's a pretty well built lid, like tupperware. But is it durable and does its job well as a steam vent? I don't know and I don't care. I'm only excited about the lid because it stops dust from collecting inside the cup when I'm not using it!!! Fifth, it is reasonably priced, it is on Amazon, and you can get your shipping wavered if you put it with another order of $15. Sixth, the edges (rim) of the mug is splayed out like a trumpet which makes it more pleasant to drink from. I'm not so sure if it's just aesthetically pleasing to me as a personal preference or if it is universally liked as well. Seventh, it's not plastic. Plastic cups have the advantage of being more durable but they have this smell I don't like and they are just not as slick as a glass or porcelain/clay/stone mug. Furthermore, plastic cups are not as personal. The disadvantage of this mug is that the holding part of the mug may be too small for some hands. I have Asian hands so it's a perfect fit for me. Awesome $10 investment. [Edit 09-24-2010] Yesterday, I tried to bake a potato in the oven using this mug and it turned out only half cooked. The half towards the bottom of the cup had the texture of a water chestnut. The mug protected the bottom half of the potato from the direct heat of the element of my oven, and it didn't get hot enough to transfer the already dilute heat through the air to my potato. French onion soups are different because they are liquid and always in contact with the mug, since the potato isn't in full contact with the mug, the heat of the oven has to travel through that air space to the mug, and the heat of the mug has to travel through the air gap to the potato. So, probably not gonna bake potatoes with it again. Still a great product for what I bought it for. [/Edit]

Excellent for soups, stews, oatmeal & storage
These CorningWare pop-ups work well for us especially in winter months when we make crock pot stews, soups etc. PROS: 1. versatile because you can store and heat food in these. They keep hot foods hot for an hour if not more. We use them for making oatmeal and cold cereal. 2. They are stackable. 3. Easy care because you can hand wash them or toss them in the dishwasher. 4. The handle allows you to heat food and hold the cup while you eat without hurting your hands CONS: 1. They are pricey. To get past the price we had to consider the overall function and use. After experimenting with some other brands we decided to order 4 to serve our purposes. Overall we highly recommend this product to people who especially enjoy food like hot soups. We recommend buying one and trying one. If you like them and they work for you order as many as you need.

Greatest Soup Mug Ever!
Let's begin with the fact that it is Corningware which means it is well made. The 20 ounce size means it holds a complete can of Progresso soup - fantastic! The lid assures that the contents will not spill when transporting it and the vent allows you to cool it off. The handle means you can microwave it (the soup or other liquid) as hot as you want and you will not burn your hand taking it out of the microwave oven. It is a wonderful for home or the office. Be careful, because it will break if you drop it on a hard surface like concrete (That's what happened to me as I opened my car door while carrying it a plastic grocery bag. Mind you the mug didn't break, only the handle.) I still use the one with the broken handle at home where I can put a plate under the hot mug. I have a new one that I use at the office and another one at home. Whether you drink hot chocolate or eat soup, this is the perfect container for hot liquid fare and it works with chili too. You will be very happy with this product!

Great mug, lousy instructions, WHY the price hike?
I've only had this mug a short time (a week or so), but I've grown to love it. I think the size is perfect for a lot of things, including the mug of oatmeal I eat every morning at my desk (in my home office). The handle seems like it could be a bit more rugged, like it might crack off if dropped in the sink, but overall it seems very nicely made and I'm satisfied. I do have some questions about the lid. Part of the reason (in addition to the large size) that bought this mug because I thought the lid would keep things warm while I work, but so far I haven't used it (the lid) for cooking. There are no instructions packed with the mug for microwaving with the lid. Do you leave that plug in the hole? Will it pop up on its own? There are general instructions in the package--about using Corningware--but what about that dang lid? There is a customer video that says the lid pops up on its own when you're cooking and it needs to release steam/pressure, but why don't the folks who make this tell you that? Also: PRICE! I paid $6.97 for this mug a few weeks ago and now it's $8.47. Why the sudden 20% price jump? Beware the prices on things like this--they tend to increase quickly and it's very annoying. PRICE UPDATE: This went up in price again. I paid $6.97 a few weeks ago, it's now up to $8.99. I can't help but think this is holiday gouging. It's gone up $2.02 per mug. Ridiculous.

I have 4 now. Quality product. Love the white. Mostly using to freeze home-made soup. Easy defrost & microwave. Ideal serving size. Lid 👍 handle 👍 dishwasher 👍

Build quality: - Very sturdy. Thick body with a good coating that is resistant to scratches - Wide base makes it difficult to topple over - you would need to be trying to do so - Dishwasher-friendly. I would keep the lid on the top rack, though Use: - Fits an entire can of 'chunky' soup (540mL) perfectly - No more microwave messes from soup explosions, no more melted saran wrap in your soup Additional uses: - Blending cup for Immersion Blender - Large mug to drink from when you're thirsty - Oven-safe, so you could use it with some lower-temperature oven recipes

One arrived broken, that is not a Corningware issue, typical Amazon lack of padding, two ceramic mugs rolling around in a big box, what would you expect. They sent a replacement, also poorly packed, but intact. The mug is big enough for a full can of soup, the lid attached firmly, whack it in the microwave. Hot soup without a messy microwave. I bought a couple more in different colours.

Great for my winter soups. Well made, easy to clean.

I watched this product to make sure I got them at some of the lower prices, since I noticed a lot of fluctuation - especially in the early days of COVID. But, I have 4 of them now and use them to make egg casseroles that I can freeze for breakfasts or soups for lunches. And the lids are secure enough, that I don't worry about them in the freezer or microwave. I did have to return one of them & get a replacement - because one lid had either been stored improperly or got heated when shipped & the inner seal on the lid was mis-shaped and wouldn't secure to the mug. Otherwise, I haven't had any issues at all. The little pop-up tab completely removes to make washing super easy.
