Product Description Award-winning pianist Ingrid Fliter makes her Linn debut with a distinctive performance of Chopin's notoriously difficult piano concertos, featuring the Scottish Chamber Orchestra conducted by Jun Markl. Since winning the silver medal at the 2000 Frederic Chopin Competition in Warsaw, Ingrid has built a reputation as a first-rate Chopin interpreter. Fliter has previously recorded two all-Chopin discs; her interpretation of the complete Chopin Waltzes received several five star reviews and was named as the Telegraph's 'CD of the Week' and Classic FM Magazine's 'Editors Choice'. Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 1 is a thoughtfully scored composition that allows the piano to shine. The Scottish Chamber Orchestra's beautifully delicate playing perfectly highlights Fliter's authoritative, yet expressive performance. Fliter carefully and skilfully showcases the range of tones in Chopin's second piano concerto, from the dramatic introductory chords at the opening of the first movement to the sweetly lyrical second movement where the Scottish Chamber Orchestra's woodwinds vie for centre stage. Fliter is a breathtaking performer whose performance of Chopin's commanding chords and lightening speed runs are effortless. Review Fliter plays with such grace and heartfelt sincerity--abetted by some lovely duetting with the SCO's bassoonist--that I was quickly won over. --Gramophone Magazine, March 2014 - Editor's Choice

Marvelous Artistry and Superb Sound Quality
Ms. Fliter has been among my favorite Chopin artists, and this album proves her talent "perfectly".I also compared this album to a couple Deutsche Grammaphon CDs of the same two concertos.First, comparing to DG recording of Krystian Zimmerman's performances, the best of DG's Chopin concerto recordings, in my opinion this album easily outshines that Gramophone's Choice recording in both artistic and sound qualities.Second, comparing to DG recording of Daniel Barenboim's performance, in my opinion, Barenboim simply sounds "mechanical".In summary, I highly recommend this accomplishment of Ms. Fliter's .

Not bad, not great !
Not the best recording of the Chopin piano concertos - Fliter's tempo is too fast for my liking - for some reason women pianists like to play a fast Chopin. When it comes to the Chopin concertos, Daniil Trifponov is my No. 1 favourite, with Maurizio Pollini a close second. Claudio Arrau is also very good, although I find that the sound quality of his recordings, from the 70's, is not that good. In my opinion the Ingrid Fliter recording is not bad, but not great !

Disappointing
Entry level interpretation, by the books, flat, souless, very little in common with Chopin. Listen to Jin Cho, Blachacz or Yundi and compare. You will be blown away and will start discovered real music of Chopin.

These are two exquisite performances of Chopin's concertos by Ingrid Fliter. Her beautiful phrasing, crisp rhythms, and changing dynamics combine for stunning performances. She is my absolute favorite performer of his music.

I really enjoy listening those concertos and as me
Ingrid Fliter shows in this CD a high performance in technical and feeling aspects. I had the opportunity to compare against Kissin and Lang Lang same compositions and she is in same level. I really enjoy listening those concertos and as me, not matter not to be an expert in music.

Superb music and playing.

Very disappointed.
No doubt Ms Fliter is a very accomplished pianist but her technique, together with the orchestras heavy handiness is far from what I think Chopin envisioned. Other reviewers gave this performance high praise; I cannot. I was expecting a different, perhaps an inspired, reading of this marvelous music but alas the very first track of the first concerto dashed my dream. If, like me, you seek the ideal Chopin then you will be disappointed in this CD. In my mind there are much better recordings available. Krystian Zimerman has a couple of recordings of these concertos which are far, far better.

Wonderful Chopin!!!!
I have been fortunate on a few occasions to see Ingrid Fliter live in Glasgow. One of those live performances was of her playing Chopin's Piano Concerto No.2, which was breathtaking. She has made her name playing Chopin, going back to 2003 when she released a disc of a live concert she did at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw. More solo Chopin discs followed, including a brilliant recording of complete Chopin waltzes for EMI in 2009. But I and many of her fans have been waiting for her to record his two piano concertos. I am glad to say that this year (2014) she has recorded them for Linn Records and what superb performances she gives of these famous Piano Concertos! For me she really shines in the Second Concerto with great sensitivity in the Larghetto (2nd movement) and sparkling play in the final Allegro Vivace. The Scottish Chamber Orchestra under Jun Markl gives her a rich and quality backing and they must have thrived on playing with such a gifted musician. Along with Argerich, Pires and Ashkenazy she can be included as a top Chopin interpreter.

Did I need another record of these concertos ?
When the reviews started appearing of this record I thought do I need another coupling of these concertos. They have been very well served throughout recorded history - a few examples being Rubinstein's early 1960s couplings , Argerich's superb records with Dutoit and earlier with Abbado and Rostropovich , Perahia/Mehta , Zimerman ( both directing and with Giulini) , Vasary and Kulka and Semkow and that nonpareil of a recording of the E Minor with Pollini and Kletzki.Ingrid Fliter's EMI disc of the Waltzes had to my ears marked her as a Chopin player of the first rank so I took the plunge and ordered this too. I found that record of the Waltzes to be enchanting and that adjective aptly describes this recording too . She is accompanied with enormous sensitivity by the SCO and Markl and the concertos sound newly minted . The E Minor is superb but the real triumph is the weaker , earlier concerto the F Minor named No 2 . This can sound wishy washy but in her hands it sounds like a masterpiece and the Larghetto is unmatched .Probably a first choice now for anyone coming to the concertos as a pair for the first time and an essential purchase for lovers of Chopin .

Chopin reincarnated
There are a lot of pianists out there who are technically brilliant but the truly great pianist has the gift of being able to reach inside the composer's mind and act as a conduit to deliver to our ears what they wish to express. Despite the CD booklet depicting an attractive woman, my mind can only visualise none other than Chopin himself sat before the piano. I have no idea about his personal life but it as if Ingrid Fliter is a nineteenth century lover who has time-travelled to show us what made the guy tick with her sublime performance.

Inspiring vivid interpretation
Technically speaking Flitter is an outstanding artist. I found her interpretation to be very original, performed with impeccable clarity. The high definition quality provided by the SACD recording does also bring this well know pieces into your "home stage" with all their grandeur.

The best!
For many years my favourite versions of these concertos were the wonderful Pollini/Kletzki recordings from the '60s, but Ingrid Fliter's disc is the one I've been listening to recently. Beautiful, life-enhancing performances from a brilliant Chopin interpreter. Absolutely indispensable if you like Chopin.

Ingrid Fliter understands Chopin.
Excellent recording of Ingrid Fliter who played the No. 1 Concerto at Royal Liverpool Phil a while ago and received a well-deserved applause from an appreciative audience. Her Chopin performances are up there with the best and I will be getting her Schubert recordings and others.
