Second Grade Holdout

Reluctant to leave First Grade!
My daughter had an amazing year in first grade and was excited yet reluctant to start second, so when I came across this book I knew it'd be such a fun way to intro into her new school year. It's relatable yet funny, and of course in the end, they realize this new year is full of the same fun as the last. Loved it so much we gifted it to her classroom so she could share with the whole class!

My new favorite
I love this book! I read it to my 2nd grade class and we all had fun with it. It has become my new first day of school book for future years.

The fear of the unknown or what they've "heard" is often worse than reality
I thought this was a delightful story for the beginning of the school year as students are adjusting to a new teacher, new friends, new routines and plenty of anxiety. The fear of the unknown or what they've "heard" is often worse than reality. I'm looking forward to sharing it with my second graders soon.

Perfect story for 1st day in 2nd grade!
Really sweet story! Perfect for the first day of school. I think is a book I will be referring back to as we discuss growth mindset. Facing our fears helps build q positive mindset.A side note—when I received the book, the cover was slit 1/2 way and the front had a slight gash in it. It was still usable just esthetically marred. I didn’t want to hassle with returning but felt I should get a partial refund. So I called customer service.—They were quite accommodating and gave me a $5 promotional credit for a future purchase. So, despite the damage, I still rate it as a 5!

Great Read Aloud
I used this book as part of a “Moving Up” lesson. The kids loved it and their interactions with the read aloud were priceless! I will definitely be using it in my classroom again.

Great Read for 1st day of 2nd grade
This was a great book to read to my students on the first day of second grade. The plot allowed us to talk about the different feelings that people experience on the first day of schools. Also, it was a great length and it wasn’t too easy/hard. It was a perfect length/level of complexity for second grade students.
