New Hope for an Old Brain
I purchased this as part of the Today's Deal that included the 2014 HD7 Fire. I loaded it up and test drove it through Level One Lesson One and am hooked. First, let me say I am TERRIBLE at any language other than American Standard English. I took Spanish for two years in Junior High (that's middle school for you Millenials), French for two years in High School (I scored lower than 50 per cent on my SAT), spent an exchange year abroad in Sweden, and took one year of Spanish in college (I walked out of the Final). I mean I am really bad at languages. So, now that I am retired, I thought I should try this again. So happy that I did. The power pack adds two pocket guides (for language in general and travel specifically) and the best dictionary I've seen for translation-it contains many idioms that come in handy immediately. So now I'm watching my Italian detective shows and look forward to turning off the subtitles. I also make the Italian great-granny who lives two doors away giggle with glee! Who could ask for more?

Not Very Effective
I was very disappointed in this product. I have found that immersion language learning is not as effective for adult learners as for children. This product is nice for the books it has, but that alone makes it overpriced. The program provides no English translation! What are these words and phrases? It will give you a picture then provide a phrase or word in Italian. What is that referring too? Is it the color of the plate? Is it the plate? Is it the table the plate is sitting on? Is it the person next to the plate? Good luck you, you'll have no idea unless you Google it, and in that case, why did I pay all this money when I could Google my way to fluency. Save your money and don't use Rosetta Stone, use one of the other products that I have found to be way more beneficial than this immersion technique.

Wrong dictionary really?!
I got the package today, but for some reason I ended up with an English- French dictionary and I purchased the Italian version. Why would I need a French dictionary to learn Italian, pretty disappointed. I don't know how someone misses something that big especially when it's visible trough the clear packaging.

GOOD PROGRAM FOR BEGINNERS
Very easy way of learning Italian. The program offers sufficient repetition and recombination practice in a variety of modes. As a former language teacher, I believe this kind of learning is as good or better than having one teacher for a whole group of students on the lower levels of learning. It allows each student to progress at an individual pace. Of course, there is no substitute for a real-life person on the higher levels when the student must create with the language. My only disappointment is that the earbud/microphone combo is uncomfortable and flimsy. Dual earphones with a microphone would be a better and sturdier option. I will be looking for a genuine Italian to converse with one of these days to pick up the necessary and authentic gestures.

Just What I Needed.
I find Rosetta Stone's immersion style to be just what is needed. For me, this is a refresher course after 20 years. It is something that will help me prepare for another trip to Italy. My goal is comfort, not fluency. I previously used the Latin-American Spanish course, again as a refresher, and I'm happy with the immersion style. The technical aspects for installation of set-up using the headphones is easy for me. However, I am a computing expert and could imagine that it could be made easier for less experienced people.

I had expected more. I have studied languages "old school" style. This will slow you down if you expect to make progress. It moves slowly and repeats things that seem simple to me and skips through things that are unknown. Also, mine seems to have a lot of glitches in being able to pick up where I left off.

Italian Rosetta Stone
Culinary school was to take our grandson to Italy for a cooking adventure. The school got in financial trouble and did not take our grandson to Italy so he did not use this product to learn Italian. Do not know anything about this product.

Three Stars
Repetition is key when learning a new language but not when it becomes superfluous

Easy at first - gets progressively more challenging as you go along. This package has five modules, and I'm almost finished #1. You can always go back and re-do sections if you need refreshment. Great investment. My only gripe is that (except for the dictionary) the companion books are very small, with almost unreadably tiny print - just baby-sized pocket guides. Even with my glasses on, I find it very difficult to reference anything in the grammar book. I was expecting a full sized text book. The dictionary is full sized. Good job!

I'm a fan of the Rosetta Stone learning technique. I had bought a few years ago Learn Irish and Learn Spanish. Next after Italian, will be German. For anyone who would like to learn the right way, I recommend to buy her package language box.
