Invaluable Resource for Artists, Historians and Embroiderers
This is an incredible resource for the embroideress or the costumer or the historian. These are the actual patterns that women used in the early nineteenth century from a contemporary publication. I'm an embroiderer and I bought these for eventual use. I will have to see if the images can be transferred from Kindle to a photo program on the computer, but the designs are beautiful and could still be used in modern clothes, especially on the borders of skirts and dresses. Elements of the designs could be used on t shirts too. I look forward to experimenting with these hard to find antique patterns. Household linens would be another place these Georgian designs would be shown to best advantage. Elegant, stylized florals without the fussiness of the Victorians. Highly recommended to specialists, not a lot of text on the history, but that's all right as this book is meant to showcase the patterns for use and study. A labor of love on the part of the author.

Full of inspiration!
I wasn't sure what to expect when I downloaded this book, but I am impressed. This book has a LOT of early 1800s needlework patterns. The only drawback is there are no directions and the images have no color, but that just means you get to use your own imagination and make it uniquely your own :)

fabric artists or just those who love Jane Austen
As I am viewing this book on a Kindle Touch there is no color available, but the photos are clear and interesting. This is a lovely book for those who are needleworkers, fabric artists or just those who love Jane Austen. There are plenty of ideas in this book that could be incorporated into beautiful modern pieces.

Lovely patterns!
While there are no instructions on types of stitches used, this is a fantastic collection of designs that can inspire modern projects.

Impractical odd book written by an angry author
A collection of images of antique embroidery, with a very strange, angry introduction. The entire book is poorly reproduced black and white images of embroidery. The 2 page introduction is a diatribe written by the author in which she introduces opinions by "Mary Wollstonecraft." (Are we supposed to know Mary?)The author's hero, Mary W, "saw instruction in needlework as an indication of the intentional limiting of girls' intellectual development." Well, my grandmother would certainly have argued against that. And there are many other inflammatory statements regarding the practice of sewing. Read them for yourself, just don't buy the book.I am baffled. Why would someone so angry about the simple practice of embroidery produce a pamphlet (which is really what this book is) on the embroidery of Jane Austen? In short, this "book" was written by someone with an agenda. I have no clue and I don't care. There are wonderful books that will cheerfully help you explore the fabrics and embroidery styles prevalent during the time of Jane Austen. Go there. My copy of this is going in the trash.

Bien encuadernado. Algunos diseños están las esquinas recortadas. Gracias

embroidery skills
I was thrilled to receive this book of embroidery patterns for the regency era. My cousin and I like to embroider miniature 1/12 scale gowns of this period and this will provide authenticity and interest to the tiny garments. Most embroidery books are garish, modern dreadful designs and none have ever been the least use, but this will enable us to reproduce accurate miniature dolls in white work, bead work or silver and gold thread. I would have liked to know the scale of these patterns. Great book
