Baker HM HooKouT Mini

I kayak fish in Florida and these have been great for me. I seem to catch a lot of big Catfish and Gafftop Sailcats and hated having to try and unhook them especially on the kayak at night. If a fish swallows the hook I find pliers still work better, but these work great at least 80% of the time. My first pair were lost on my first trip with them, got knocked off the kayak during a night trip. Ordered a second pair as soon as I got home, that's how good these work. Added a float now to prevent from losing them again. Takes a little practice to get the hang of using them, but a little patience and trial and error will get you there pretty quick. Other than the obvious like rod and reel, these come with me on every trip even if just fishing off the dock for a bit. I used to hate hooking big catfish, but now that unhooking them is easier, I enjoy the fight that the big Sailcats will put up.

Good quality. More useful that pliers especially if the hook is deep in the mouth. Pliers can be thicker than these making it harder to get the hook out if the fish's mouth is smaller. Make sure you lube the inside of the mechanism to keep it preserved if you surf fish or expose it to salt water.

This is quite handy. I originally purchased for saltwater use. I give it 5 stars for freshwater and probably only 3 stars for Pacific coast rockfish. For general saltwater use, get the next size.

Very good product. I like the longer version better but this one is a good option. If you need a safe way to remove hooks from fish that are gut hooked, these are you tools. I gave the long hookout 5 stars.
