Mother's Milk

This is the thickest vinyl I've come across so far. I thought it was a double album. I've been a fan of the Chilis since 1992 and own this album on cassette, CD & download and this is without a doubt the best quality recording I've heard of this album. Every song is punchy, clear and articulate and I'm hearing things that I've never heard before.I love the band in every incarnation but as far as I am concerned this album and Blood Sugar Sex Magik represent the Chilis at their absolute prime. It's the perfect balance of the raw energy of the first albums and the more polished later stuff.

RHCP Mothers Milk is overshadowed by the Hit Single that came from it Higher Ground. The rest of the album is met with technical musician ship and speedy licks throughout. In later years I feel it is an album that has been forgotten but should be re-visited to appreciate its expertise.

A good place to start for a newbie perhaps ? A good selection of tracks ranging from funk beats ,rap and rock combined with the odd ballad and a worthy collection. Its RHCP before Blood sugar sex magic and Californication; If you like those two albums you are pretty sure to get on ok with this.

This is the true breakthrough album by the Chili Peppers, driven by the "semi hit" singles Higher Ground (a Stevie Wonder cover) Taste The Pain and lead single Knock Me Down.Being the fourth album released by the group you have a collection of great songs by a band fully finding their identity and sound.Soulful and at times Funky as well as tender in places there are no weak songs to be found.For those whom later albums are their starting point for this band, this should be an essential purchase.
