The Weaver's Idea Book: Creative Cloth on a Rigid Heddle Loom Review: Go for the Spiral-Bound Format - I have this book both in Kindle and spiral bound formats. The content is the same in both formats and well reviewed by others. As a weaver with intermediate experience on a rigid heddle loom, I find this book thorough and inspiring, and it's my go-to, most-often-used-by-far weaving book. Well done, Jane Patrick! My review focuses on the format differences. My first purchase (January 2014) was the Kindle format. It's a lot cheaper, and the idea of keeping my books in the cloud appeals to me in general. I particularly like the ability to click and zoom in on photos, but when I do, I can only see the photo... not the instructions. I have some favorites that I enjoy weaving with different yarns, colors, setts, etc., and though they are bookmarked, I find I have to do a lot of flipping through to find them. The power-saving Kindle feature often powers down the display when I am in the middle of following the instructions... frustrating. Given the extensive use I get from this book, I decided to order the spiral bound format as well (January 2015). LOVE IT! I had no idea what I was missing with the Kindle format. The layout of multiple photos on a two-page spread allows me to compare variations and see full projects. The photos are large enough for me not to miss the zoom capability, and they are vividly colorful. I also understand more clearly when I can see the photo and description side-by-side, which was more challenging with the shorter single pages and smaller photo size format in the Kindle edition. I have added physical bookmarks to my favorites, so no more searching. The spiral-bound format stays open without a fuss for as long as I need it. Whether you're just starting out or have lots of weaving experience, this book is a keeper you're likely to use often for guidance and inspiration. The spiral-bound format is well-worth the cost difference. Review: Good idea book! - Excellent book. A must have for rigid heddle weavers looking to expand their ideas.

Great weaving book!
I love this book! I’ve never had a craft book I could just sit down and read, but I do with this one. Not like a novel, but flipping through. Each page is kind of independent, about something new, but written in such a down to earth way that it’s all understandable. Would recommend this book even if someone didn’t want to weave, but just wants to know more about weaving!

Inspires and instructs simultaneously!
As a new weaver without the benefit of in-person classes, I am so greatful for this book. This and her other book Time to Weave, as well as her generous and free youtube videos, are some of the foundations of my weaving education. Tons of techniques and ideas presented cleary with good instruction. Lots and lots of color photos demonstrating the tecniques and showing you the unlimited posibilities. Love the kindle but will also be getting a hard copy.

Good Ideas but diagrams confusing
I spent a few hours trying to read the diagrams included with my project. I was weaving it fine but still could not make the diagram match what I was doing. Someone in a blog finally told me the diagrams are for weavers NOT using a rigid heddle loom. Our directions are in the text. It would have been helpful to know this. But four stars anyway for the great ideas.

Great resource for a beginning weaver
I recently got into weaving, and decided a simple rigid heddle loom would be a great way to start. After hearing from one dealer that she had "never heard of anyone who taught themselves to warp a loom or weave" I decided I would challenge that by teaching myself! I found this book on Amazon and looked at it for days trying to decide if this was going to be useful or not. I took the plunge and got it along with a few other books. The book is VERY well organized, clearly written, and extremely helpful. I worked my way through the majority of the book in about a month - and within 6 weeks of getting my loom I was weaving with two heddles! The patterns are clearly explained, the photos are helpful, and the tips that are sprinkled through the book are very useful. I bought the companion video online from Intraweave and learned a LOT more on warping a loom in various ways from that, as well as being able to see in a video form on my laptop how to do things like hemstitching and various patterns. If you are thinking of learning to weave and would like a simple, easy to understand resource that can get you going on your own quickly, this is the book for you! I only wish there were more rigid heddle weaving resources like this book.

Buy the Spiral Bound copy!
I purchased the Kindle version of this book. I browsed it but couldn't grasp its totality. I purchased a used copy of the spiral-bound book and what a difference!!! There is so much to learn in weaving, and having the hard copy helped me jump from one topic to another according to my interests and needs. That was very hard to do with the Kindle version. I better appreciate the vast information this book provides with the hard copy than with the digital version. As far as the content, this book has so much information that is both understandable and easy to follow. As a new weaver, it is perfect. There are many advanced methods and projects that I can see will be wonderful as I progress and learn.

Think if you can't find in here to learn from you should not be trying to weave. Extremely new to it and it can be confusing, but when doing as says and trying own colours, things do work out. Worth the money
