Couldn't get it to work. Software obsolete.
I was very disappointed. It did a poor job playing DVD movies & audio CDs. When I checked online for updated software, I found that the associated software has been obsolete for several years. On my desktop, I did manage to insert a new DVD R/W disk & format it, and I did store a file onto the DVD. Also on the desktop, I was able to open that file.BUT when I took DVD Drive down to my laptop (Surface Pro), I had all sorts of problems. The laptop recognized the drive, but then the drive disappeared from Windows Explorer. I did manage (once) to read the file I stored from my desktop, but when I tried to create a simple text file on my laptop & store it onto the DVD, the DVD disappeared again, never to be seen again.I even unplugged my external backup hard drive & used that cable to install the DVD drive. Still got problems. So, I'm returning this brick & trying a different drive.

Plug and Play
I got a new gaming PC few months ago and it doesn't come with an optical drive. Installing drivers from DVD discs became a problem until I got this portable DVD drive. Just plugged right in with no drivers needed, and it worked instantly. It also comes with an USB C adapter which is very useful that I can use this drive with my laptop via USB C port as well. This portable drive is perfect for both my desktop PC and laptop!

VLC Media Player
I am giving this product only two stars for the sole fact that the Seller did not respond to my concerns and also that with my Samsung Notebook Pro the device did not work as stated on the listing. I had to use VLC Media Player to get it to work.Before ordering this device please do your homework on your computers system as some computers will not play without a media player

Worthless drives
I knew I should not have gone cheap. I took a risk and now I am regretting it. Bought to of these drives. The first one already had a region code (region 2) set on it. That suggests a used drive. The Eject button works 25% of the time. Had to use the pin hole to get a disc out. When a disc is inserted it tells my burning software that it cannot find an end point.The 2nd drive actually worked better than the first. It let me put a disc in and it sped up pretty quick. Went to burn an image to the disc and after about 3% it crashes. This happened three times in a row. I now have three coasters along with 2 crappy drives. I will be returning these to Amazon pronto.

Decent product, good value
Two observations: The instruction sheet was a bit hard to follow with the explanation of the aux. power input function/relationship to the laptop's battery drain; and second; when playing dvds through laptop (VLC software), the volume seemed low.

awsome little DVD burner.
I have been tried a lot brands, so far this is the only brand that compatible with my computer . When i connect to the my laptop, it is recognized by my computer right away and have no issue with my blank DVD. so far i like this device very much , and i am glad that i made this purchase.

Not what I needed and it cost extra
The device could not be recognized by my laptop which has WIN 10, so it was of no use and then it ate my Turbo Tax program disk. Without wrecking it, I could not get the disk out so I sent it back with the device.

Works great!
I am using this to play DVD’s on my laptop since they’re not building them in any more. It works great so far. My only complaint is that the instructions that come with the unit are a little vague and you just have to guess what they mean sometimes.
