READ FREDRICK'S QUEEN BEFORE THIS ONE!
This book states it is book 1 of THE MACKINTOSHES AND MCLARENS, but this starts off where FREDERICK'S QUEEN: THE CLAN GRAHAM SERIES. It is confusing to a reader if you think you are purchasing the first book of a series, to find out it really isn't. Granted I read it somewhere, but just wanted anyone who may have missed that news that you will be somewhat lost without reading Fredrick's Queen first. Now, I must admit I loved this book better than Fredrick's Queen. There is more action, suspense, intrigue, and a great story.Loved the main character's, both were strong and caring people. I enjoyed the banter between them. It was a joy to meet up with the character's from the Graham series too. This book has more passion and it is almost a clean read as far as the lovemaking. The actual act, is not described, behind closed doors, but some mild foreplay (very mild) if you are use to romance stories. There was a question at the end of Fredrick's Queen, that was unanswered and I wrote about it in my review for that book. But, it is answered in the beginning of this one.We get HEA, many surprises, no cliffhanger, great story telling and I am on to the next book of the series. (ljb)

Oh my!!!
I absolutely loved this book! I had to stop reading just a few pages in because I was laughing so hard I almost wet my pants! This book takes you on such a roller coaster ride; from laughter to tears; from heartbreak to joy; from sit on the edge of your seat suspense to the ultimate victory! Do not miss this journey!!

Looking forward to a new series from this author...
I was given a free advanced copy of this book -- although I had already pre-ordered it. I have read all of this author's books and like her storytelling. This book is no exception. While all of her books are written as stand alone stories -- I much prefer reading connected books in order. With this book I went back and re-read Frederick's Queen. It gives background for what happens in Ian's Rose. For those who are wondering -- the level of sexual content in this book is very mild. I wouldn't hand it to my sheltered mother -- but there's nothing much more than mention of breasts and a grope here and there.

Excellent! Beautifully Written!!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest. What a beautifully written story of love, hardship and betrayal. Ian and Rose character's were easy to relate and fall in love with. Ian is your typical Scottish warrior and leader who demands honor and loves even harder. Rose is a strong heroine in this story who helps lead the women while the men rebuild their home. Betrayal in their midst places Rose in jeopardy. Twits and unexpected turns keep the story moving and conclude with massive sign of unity among the Mackintoshes, McLaren and the Grahams. Suzan Tisdale is a superb story teller and her books are always a must have in your home library. Although I was gifted an advance digital copy, I also bought a copy of this book to help support this talented writer. Looking forward to the next installment in this new stand alone series.

Intriguing Follow-up to Frederick's Queen
While I found this book a little bit slow to get into, it actually contained a bit of mystery and a lot of adventure. The story is about the love and romance between Ian and Rose, who had first met in a previous book by the author. The first few chapters deal with painful misunderstandings and hang-ups from their past, that keep them apart. This was the least enjoyable part of the book, as Ian acted completely irrational for reasons that weren't clear to the reader (and perhaps not to Ian.) However, perservering through that part, the book improves. We then get to the heart of the story, where Ian is commissioned as acting chief of his brother Frederick's clan, the MaLaren's. The story then covers the travel to, and rebuilding of the MacLaren lands. The story then gets immersing, as we learn about all the different people in the clan. The latter 3rd of the book is the most interesting, and deals with Rose being kidnapped by a rival clan, and the mechanisms needed to get her back. It's clear there was a traiter involved in her kidnapping, but it's unclear which clansperson betrayed her. Then there is an offer from a traitor in the rival clan, to help get Rose back, but it's unclear how much the rival traitor should be trusted. The overarching theme of the book is deep friendship and love between people.
