this is the book most of us need
i have bought i have no idea how many copies of this excellent book over the years. in my trade of industrial electricity, shop employees often have questions about residential power, and it's fine to answer those, but teaching one-on-one takes a Lot of time away from the job. by having copies of this book that i can hand out, the employee can learn the basics at home, and then come back with deeper and more worthy questions. a situation like that is better for all parties concerned. i talk less, and they learn more.once a couple of men grasp it, i have found they teach amongst themselves, and since i don't often speak their native language, being able to discuss the nuances of things is lost in my mentoring. but when the details of a subject get translated into native speech.. look out ! ie : when just one laotian finally understands the exact how/why of a voltage drop, in about a week, there won't be any more bad welding grounds to be found in the entire plant. thusly, everybody is safer, gets more done, fewer rejects, higher bonus performance pay .. etc. it's all good. and they can properly rewire their garage at home too. any time i can make it so they don't need me anymore, that's me doing a good job.back to this book : if you are looking for your opening move on understanding how to properly distribute electricity , and not burn down your home, this book is the place to start. i have multiple dozens of books on electricity. this is the best one.earlier editions were more clear. later editions are forced to sacrifice a bit of the basics to allow coverage of additional information about our electrical codes. but, they are ALL GOOD.i can't really say enough fine things about this text. it is as honest and as clear as writing can be, all my friends have a copy.here .. i'll give you an example. do you really know exactly HOW the two switches at either end of your hallway both control the light ? and if you drew it out on paper, do you see that there's an obvious easy way of making it work, but you'll likely get electrocuted changing the light bulb ? does any of that sound interesting ?Buy This Book.

Great Book
Being color blind I was always told electricity was not for me. The fact is that is not the absolute truth. Most of the time color blindness is not even a factor since i can differentiate white/black/bare or green. Next problem was learning when you are in your 40's. I tried several books like the B&D wiring complete, but they left more questions unanswered. Having a great deal of respect for electricity it still made me unsure, this book irons out the details but also shows illustrations of several types of common electrical needs - lights, switch plates, receptacles, lamps, etc. Plus it worked for my brain which often brings up more questions than many books have answers. So if you are looking to start fixing a few things around the house - give this book a try. BTW, its also small enough to travel in the tool bag.

Excellent book, binding faulty
This is an excellent guide for the novice do it yourself "electrician". I double checked everything I was doing with a retired electrician, and all was correct. The drawings and explanations are quite clear.I had borrowed this book from our public library and liked it so much I ordered my own copy. Unfortunately the copy I received apparently had some type of problem in the printing/binding process, and there were significant divots on about six pages. I was able to make out what was missing, but it was difficult. Unfortunately the defects were in one of the sections (on barn wiring) that I really needed and that is not readily available in many of the how to books.

Bingo!!
This book is a nifty resource, and at a bargain price. After completing a nine-month tech college course for an Electrical Technician certificate, I was busy with work and other projects and was becoming concerned about "information fade" -- I was focused on the "how-to" handyman and DIY books and was losing track of the NEC requirements that drive the how-to steps. I wanted a quick reference means to tie the "how-to" steps with the NEC and all its technical information. This little gem of a book does just that; it's got the "how-to" basics PLUS the NEC requirements in layman's terms - the "why" behind the "how-to", and all very readable. Fantastic choice for anyone like me who wants to know the how-to and the why-it-matters info in a very readable style.

Great Primer for DIY Residential Electric
If you want a great book to give you the basics on wiring, planning out basic lighting and receptacle circuits, switches, etc. then get this book and read it over a few times. While you might need something supplementary for intermediate to advanced jobs (multiple three pole switch wiring, etc.), this book will get you through most simple DIY jobs like splicing in a receptacle, switch or light, etc.Even if you leave all the work to a professional, its still worth a read as a homeowner to understand the wiring in your house and be able to have an intelligent conversation with your contractors.

Home electrical wiring
This book is of great value to home owners. It can serve as the primary guide to anyone willing to navigate the unfamiliar realm of electrical wiring. It explains the Electrical Code requirements that are mandatory in homes, both for safety, and to pass electrical inspections. The National Electrical Code book I own is pretty doggone confusing for me, a non certified electrician. This is barely suitable for most commercial applications, as to wire size, higher voltage installation, conduit and all. Not for three phase.Using this book can be a beginning towards becoming a professional electrical apprentice.
