TOO SMALL BOOK / PRINT
Buyer beware! Did not notice book only 6x9 - good luck keeping on music stand - and TINY print - what was Hal Leonard thinking??? Also wonder if Greg Koch aware they have ruined his product - and then stamped his name on it.

Please fix this product
The content of this book is great. I have both the Kindle and physical copy. The Kindle version is extremely flawed. All the songs are almost impossible to read because they are small and on e-reader you can make it bigger but it becomes immediately apparent that that the scan is not in focus and so blurry that its almost impossible to read the music. The physical copy does not have this problem. I ask Hal Leonard to do an update and fix this issue. If they do I will change my review. I have not seen this problem in other Hal Leonard Kindle books...

Good way to make progess methodically.
For those of us who like to work through a thing left to right, this book really lays it out. No simple (as nothing good is) but clearly written. I'm STILL having trouble going from E Major to Em with the added pinky! Brain just doesn't like it.

Great fun and exploration of blues styles for intermediate player
Re print format I did check out the "large" format from the library first, then purchased this. Overall I think this format is better, but on some of the denser charts you may want to scan & enlarge for best legibility. The book goes over some basics but you need to have mastered beginning guitar to get the most from this book. E.g. the first track after tuning notes is way beyond beginner level of chord change tempo, and it helps greatly to already know how to read music and/or tabulature. The tracks are fun to play with and well recorded and add a lot to the value of the package. If you get through the entire book, having "nailed" each exercise, you will in fact be "able" to go on to do more blues playing with considerably improved aptitude and awareness of various techniques and styles within the blues genres.

No audio in Kindle version, text very small.
Well-written content for beginner to intermediate blues players, just purchased to freshen up on a few things.Disappointed that the original came with a CD but the Kindle has no audio versions. I can figure out what the examples should sound like, but shouldn't have to as I paid for the audio to be there and it wasn't. Also text size is quite small, seems an error was made on this front as it's hard to read. Good content but a very poor job of transitioning the product to Kindle format. Buyer beware

Quite good.
I got this book for the song content rather than the theory as I am relearning rather than starting fresh. There's another book that looks the same as this that has the full songs I think but I actually preferred this for its cut down versions. I was hoping not to get bogged down learning the full version but to get the basic twelve bars under my belt and that is working well for me.The theory content seems OK for someone that has learnt basic cords, open and barre, and wants to learn basic techniques for lead playing. It starts off with some scales and then has a look at things such as hammer ons, pull offs, vibrato and slides etc with examples for them. It then builds to teaching short blues licks. Along the way it has the a variety of blues songs to learn with a brief blurb about the song as well as a track to listen and play along to once you start to get the hang of it. Once again I find audacity very helpful to slow the tempo while I practice and learn the song.I am finding this to be a great companion book for Blues Rhythm Guitar -- Master Class by Keith Wyatt. The techniques taught in that more comprehensive look at blues rhythm guitar playing pop up in the songs in this book and give you some practical application and context. Bass riffs, horn riff phrasing and fills and the like that are covered in the Master Class book all turn up in these songs. For someone that has got the basics of chords and some rhythm patterns under their belt, and is keen to learn blues rhythm and lead guitar, could do worse than getting this and the Blues Rhythm Guitar Master Class book.I would give this another star if it covered the pentatonic scales better. Eventually you'd want something like Blues You Can Use to learn scales more thoroughly and to start to develop your lead playing skills.

Good introduction to blues guitar, especially for a solid rhythm playing foundation
This is a very solid book on basic blues rhythm playing and a nice introduction to blues lead playing. I wouldn’t recommend this book to someone who has never held a guitar and is trying to self teach. But if you aren’t an absolute beginner this book will get you through the basics of the structure and feel of blues guitar. As an instructor this is a great book that can be used almost right from the very start after teaching just a few basic open chords.

this is a great BLUES RHYTHM GUITAR BOOK
....To me , this is a great BLUES RHYTHM GUITAR BOOK,,,especially for beginners with a good knowledge of open chords and intermediate beginners,as far as you are supposed to know how and when you get to become Intermediate,,,,well...the book contains real blues songs with their respective rhythm part,,,it will sure make you a better guitar player,,,as against another review about the sound of guitar on CD,,to me it sounds good and it is a real electric guitar,,,it's even good to be listening to as instrumental blues,,,but the most important thing to me is that you get a better understanding how an old style blues song is structured,,so if you play and write your own music, too,,,get this book, something that will fill in your own background music playing....peace y'all

Not a good tutorial book.
I am extremely frustrated and annoyed with this book. It appears to have been written by a piano player rather than someone who knows how to impart knowledge in the order a learner can use it on guitar. The most common keys ever used on guitar A and E. The most common way to begin playing the blues, the Pentatonic scale. So on page 3 you have a blues in G using the G blues scale down at the open strings, then a blues in C for heavens sakes! It doesn't even START with a simple 12 bar chord structure. I bought the Leonard Guitar Method series of books and they were excellent. This is rubbish. Very disappointed.

To make matters worse the tracks on the CD aren't even the ones ...
If I could gives this book a zero star rating I would. It does really explain anything. It just gives you examples but without explaining how. To make matters worse the tracks on the CD aren't even the ones given in the book so I can't even rely on the CD to help me. Utterly hopeless book!

Book good, but pointless without music.
Book is great, but got no download code or link for the music. So all pretty pointless and obsolete right now until I get a response from Hal Leonard as to the whereabouts of said code. 1 week and still waiting for any type of response. Pretty shocking service to be honest..
