Comprehensive review
I bought this dispenser recently and it's awesome. Couple key points to consider if you're in the market. 1.) It's a MANUAL dispenser. No bells and whistles here. You will be doing all the work. You MANUALLY load it. You MANUALLY pull the tape through. You MANUALLY hold it with one hand to keep it stable. You get the picture. That's what you're signing up for with a MANUAL dispenser. I would stick with this dispenser if I were shipping maybe five packages a day. If you're shipping more than five a day, you will benefit from something higher end. 2.) Mine arrived a different color. The color here shows red, mine arrived black. That's no big deal. 3.) It arrived without instructions. This isn't IKEA furniture, but instructions are nice. Just keep in mind that your tape (sold separately) simply sits in the dispenser like you see in the picture, and you thread the tape through the rollers in a way that it dispenses out across the foam roller thing. Easy. 4.) Remove the foam roller thing and fill the water reservoir BEFORE trying to thread your tape. 5.) If you're using gummy, reinforced tape (and you are, otherwise, why did you buy this dispenser?) determine which side is the gummy side and make sure that side is dispensing across the damp roller. If the non-gummy side is dispensing across the damp roller, you have it loaded backwards, so try again. 6.) Pull the tape across the damp roller in an even, fluid motion. If the tape isn't wet, it doesn't stick. It shouldn't be dripping, but it does need consistent coverage. Ever lick an envelope and miss the corner and it won't stay down? Same principle here. 7.) Have scissors handy to cut your tape to length. Don't even try to use the teeth cutter thing on the dispenser. It cannot cut through reinforced tape very evenly without a good yank so you're just better off using scissors for a clean edge. That's all there is to it.

Great Dispenser for Low Volume Shippers *Works with Reinforced Tape*
his is a great little manual dispenser. I've only had it about a week now but it has a very simple yet effective design that works very well for my needs. I only ship about 5-7 medium size packages per week so I couldn't justify investing $300-$500 into one of those Marsh© or Better Pack© brand dispensers. For under $100, this was a great option. It works very well, and puts just the right amount of water on the tape to make it stick firm and dry quickly. It came completely assembled and was simple enough to feed the tape through the rollers the first time using the product photo as a guide. There is a small plastic reservoir that holds about 6 fl oz. of water. Above the reservoir is a roller covered with an absorbent fabric like material that dips into the water as it turns and then disperses.that onto the tape as it rolls past.I use reinforced tape with the fibers in it General Supply Reinforced Kraft Sealing Tape, 8/Carton and I didn't expect this would be able to cut through it, which I was fine with. But I was actually pleasantly surprised to find that, if done carefully, you can use the cutting teeth to tear off a piece without using scissors. The cut isn't always clean and I suspect the teeth will dull rather quickly, but at least for now, I don't need any additional cutting implement to use it.All in all I'm happy with the purchase and would recommend it to anyone shipping between 5-15 packages per week. Hopefully it last a good long time, but if not, I'll update this review.

It worked way better than I had hoped and the results were uniform ...
I use the gummed brown paper packing tape for packages which go USPS Registered Mail.....the brown gummed tape is a requirement. In the past, I've just used a wet sponge and scissors to wet/cut the paper tape.....with mixed results. I decided to purchase this brown paper tape dispenser to hopefully make the process easier and more uniform. When the dispenser arrived and I had the opportunity to examine its construction and the way it worked......frankly, I wasn't impressed. Then I actually used it. It worked way better than I had hoped and the results were uniform adhesion and easy to use. I guess the roller applies just the right amount of moisture to the gummed paper and the cutting bar works best when you place a finger on it so it does not move.Bottom line.....it works very well for my purposes. I would have given it 5 starts, except it comes with no instructions whatsoever and I had to go back to the original ad to pull up the instructions in the image section of the dispenser.

decent packaging
Kraft Manual Pull And Tear Paper Tape Dispenser was wrapped in unrecyclable plastic and placed in recyclable cardboard box. Could omit the plastic. If there's enough moisture to seep into the box and damage the product, the plastic would not hold it back anyway. The design of the product itself seems excellent, but I will have to put it to the test. The product is all metal and heavy, so it probably requires only one hand to operate. I suspect the reviewers that complained did not have the paper tape running under the first roller. If the tape runs under the first roller, it pulls the roll of tape down. Seems like a smart design. The water roller is just a PVC tube covered in a sock-like material that holds water. I like how the design is so simple-- hard to mess up.

Main Picture Is Misleading - Roll of tape is not included
I have not tried this yet, but this is precisely why I am so unhappy with this item. The first / main picture shows the tape dispenser with a roll of tape in it. This means it is suppose to contain a roll of tape, but it does not. It is also further misleading because someone even asked the question on the page, "Does this contain a roll of tape" and someone answered yes. The truth is that no tape is provided. So if you purchase this item, make sure you also purchase some tape, otherwise you are going to be like me and not able to use it until a couple more days pass for Amazon Prime to deliver the tape that I now have to buy. As far as the actual dispenser is concerned, it looks like a pretty sturdy piece of equipment. I'll provide an update once I am able to use some kraft tape in it.
