Size:Tamron Adaptall-2 | Style:Standard Mirrorless cameras aren't only revolutionary because of their compact size; they're even more versatile for mounting lenses than their full-sized counterparts! Fotodiox offers strong support for mirrorless camera platforms with hundreds of options for mounting both modern and vintage lenses. Our adapters deliver infinity focus, manual aperture control, and a sturdy build for lasting quality. Compatible Nikon 1-mount cameras (including but not limited to): S2, J4, V3, AW1, S1, J3, V2, J2, V1, J1. Please note: This is a manual adapter, so lens functions that rely on electronic communication with the camera body (autofocus, AE metering, image stabilization, etc.) will be disrupted. Set your camera to “Manual’ or ‘Aperture Priority’ for metering. If camera does not release be sure to enable ‘shoot without lens’ in camera settings. We state “infinity focus allowed” because our adapters are designed to be universal which can prevent some lenses from focusing to infinity at the infinity Mark.

Just an adapter but works well
Yes you will be using manual mode using this adapter and I believe all except Nikon's official adapter. Other reviewers have not been very fair since manual should be expected. Unfortunately Nikon's adapter is just too expensive and not worth the price for the Nikon 1 system. One of the reasons I really like Canon mirrorless is the ability to get a cheap adapter for Canon EF mount lenses that communicates with the camera and autofocuses. But that isn't the case with Nikon 1.The biggest disappointment for me is discovering Nikon is not allowing magnification when a lens isn't detected. At least that seems to be the case on the V1 and it sounds like it applies to other Nikon 1 models. The screen is sharp enough to focus when you don't need to be very precise, but (from only a few minutes of testing) it seems it may be quite difficult to achieve precise focus.Anyway regarding this adapter specifically it works well as expected. I bought this one because it allows adjusting aperture and as far as I know I don't think most of the others do (will need aperture ring on lens and most of my Nikon lenses do not have one)

It does exactly what it says it will do
I have a Nikon J1 and a few Zeiss lenses from my old film days and when I saw this product I figured I'd try it. What the heck, it was less than six bucks and if it didn't work I could use it for surf casting. If it did, then I could put a few dust collectors to work.Well, it does exactly what is is supposed to do. The machining is top quality and they even thoughtfully added a tripod mount on the adapter, which is a good thing as the lenses are huge in comparison to the camera.Advantages- You can utilize some old glass. There is a magnification factor of 2.7 which makes the 50 into a short telephoto and the 80-200 into a honking 540mm lens. The small sensor in the camera only uses the sweet spot of an already amazing lens. The depth of field is very shallow, especially at f1.4 giving some neat bokeh.Disadvantages- The camera must be used fully manually. Focusing is a task on the screen, especially in bright light. Setting exposure is by trial and error as you will get nothing to indicate proper exposure. No real issue though, just take a guess and adjust as needed.Since I got the camera cheap and I already had the lenses, this setup will be my beach camera where I don't like to take the SLR to close to the water. With the big lens on a tripod I can get some good surfer pictures.Overall, a quality product from Fotodiox. Everything I have bought from them is good.

A great product but not too user friendly
Not for the amateur or faint of heart but immensely rewarding if you have some old quality Minolta glass from the film era. Since this adapter is completely manual, you have to manually focus the lens and set aperture and shutter speed just like in the old days. For the price, it slips on and off my J1 smoothly enough, and the lenses similarly mount and dismount nicely from the adapter. Here are some pointers on the use of this adapter on the J1:Make sure you have the latest firmware upgrade for the camera. It is freely available on the Nikon support website.Carefully attach lens with adapter to camera. Only attach a lens that has a both a focus ring and an aperture ring.Go into the menu and select exposure; then manualSet the ISO to 400 or less in the menuSet a shutter speed on the body with the little flippy switch in the upper right. You can focus with the lens wide open, and then turn the aperture ring to choose an aperture setting. As you close this aperture, objects closer and further from the point that you have chosen will come into focus, and less light will reach the sensor.Try a shot, and look at it on the screen. You can just experiment with a different aperture or shutter speed depending on your initial result or press the display button until the histogram shows up alongside your shot, and change shutter speed or aperture to taste. repeat. It sounds like a lot of work, but once you get the knack it becomes second nature. It is very rewarding to see the stunning results obtainable with old, sharp Minolta glass. It is also nice that this costs a fraction of the amount that Nikon charges for the modern autofocus equivalent lenses on the J1.

Does what it claims to do.
But, as warned, the Nikon 1 J1 must be operated in manual mode when a non-standard lens is attached, and focusing seems, thus far, to not be a simple matter. I'll modify this review if warranted. So is it worth buying this adapter? It was for me because it was inexpensive and I wondered if the better lenses would make the J1 more useful. But for now it's unlikely I will be using the lenses from my DSLR Nikon with the J1.

will not mount on nikon v2
bought one when price dropped to £9 briefly. As cx g adapters go its not bad at all. once you've got the screw drive coupling aligned properly the focussing is quite smooth. It will mount on the v1, v2 and j5 which is what i've tried.it will NOT mount on a v2 because the overhang of the evf housing prevents its location.( there is also the issue that manually any mf lens ( other than by the ft1 is difficult since nikon 1 has neither focus peaking or magnification aids.)

Gives a new lease of life to classic glass
bought adaptors to let me use my film era Fujinon and Topcon lenses on my modern digital Nikon J1. For this review I'm dealing with the Fujica X-mount bayonet adaptor.Firstly these US supplied adaptors arrived in a reasonably quick time (within a week). It came in a box with a soft pouch inside; the feel and finish of the adaptor is very nice and mounted on the black J1 looks very appropriate. Fujinon users will be familiar with the fact that, unmounted from the camera, the lens will spring open to it's open aperture and I was concerned that I would only be able to shoot with the aperture wide open, but thankfully the adaptor incorporates a static bar the closes the aperture to the selected value. It'll take a bit of discipline to focus at wide open and then close down to the desired shooting aperture (whilst remembering to meter); so it's fair to say this is not the setup where speed is of the essence. In practical use the camera will initially complain that a lens isn't attached but delving into the menu and selecting manual exposure solved this.Overall a nicely made piece of gear that I would certainly recommend and top marks to Fotodiox for putting out such a comprehensive range of adaptors that allow so many old lens fittings to be used again on modern gear.

very well made niche adaptor
somewhat mystified by the .com reviewer that complains about the adaptor's additional glass lens as this Nikon 1 adaptor doesn't have one!The unit is very nicely made (I'm very impressed how well the little blue lever works!); the whole thing works as it should and a Topcon 58mm f1.4 mounted on the front of a J1 really looks the part.I'm really chuffed there are firms out there like Fotodiox taking the time to make adaptors for lesser known lens fittings.

An adaptor that does not adapt
Item arrived late. Three days later. Actually this "adaptor" does not work with Fujian 50mm f/1.4. Fujian is probably the most popular c-mount lens. The lens does not fit in the adaptor because the adaptor is too tight. So I wasted my money!Fotodiox adaptor might work with smaller c-mount lenses, e.g. 35 f/1.7 or 25 f/1.4.
