A little more work, but phenomenal popcorn
I really wanted the best of all three worlds; the ease of microwaving, but none of the unhealthy side effects, the healthiness of air popping, but not being like packing foam, and the flavor of kettle popping, but without the crazy amount of grease. After I torched my first cup’s worth of kernels, I decided to do a little more research before I completely wrote off this product. I’m glad I did.I saw that someone mentioned using the “popcorn” setting on my microwave and that was the trick. Not that this was the perfect, simple, one-touch solution, but it was the gateway to perfection.I know everyone’s microwave is different, but here’s my method:Ingredients:1/3 cup of popcorn kernels2-3 teaspoons of Reddenbocker popcorn oilAbout 1 teaspoon of kosher salt ground to a fine power in my coffee grinderMix the kernels, oil, and salt in the bottom of the popper.Put the popper into the microwave and run it at full power for 30 seconds to pre-heat the oil and kernels.Next, push the popcorn button twice to select 3.5 (at least that’s how to do it on my whirlpool microwave)Let the popcorn popping cycle finish as usual.I usually still have maybe a teaspoon or two of unpopped kernels left in the bottom, but I just re-oil and re-pop them when I get to the bottom. The 1/3 cup of kernels typically fills the whole popper, but not yet popping the lid off, so it seems to be the best amount.Although this is a little more effort than air popping or microwave-in-a-bag, it has way better flavor than either of those. It also gives you way more flexibility than microwave-in-a-bag; I can make nearly any flavor I want. The flavor of this popcorn is so much closer to popped in the kettle, except about a gallon less grease.I really enjoy the popcorn this device makes and how easy it is to clean up. I hope that this might be helpful for anyone having difficulty with theirs or are deciding whether to get one. Even though it’s a little more effort, it’s not a hassle and the popcorn it makes is completely worth it.

Cheap, tasty fun - every bowl can be different
This Colonel Popper Popcorn Popper lives up to the promises: It's easy to use, easy to clean, pays for itself over time (compared to microwave popcorn or other snacks), produces a healthy product and stores fairly flat. Mine has seen daily use since I bought it.What's not to like?Besides, popcorn is CHEAP, healthy (unless you drown it with sugars and/or oil), and tastes good.Store-brand popcorn starts at about about a nickel an ounce. Add a little vegetable oil, salt and spices. Minutes later you have a bowl full of a hot, healthy snack that tastes great. Plus, it costs less than the change that's stuck under your couch cushions. So isn't it time to replace those coins with loose kernels?I like to experiment with the spices. So far my favorite is simply extra virgin olive oil, kosher salt and cayenne pepper. Dried rosemary, black pepper and garlic powder are great also. Anything that can last a few minutes in a microwave would probably work; you can add other spices after it's popped.I've also tried to go super low-calorie by using a bit of filtered water to get the salt and spices to stick. It works, just not as well as vegetable oil.And a bonus for anyone in the U.S.: Most popcorn we buy here is grown here. It's tariff-proof!

Makes great popcorn
I am the wife that bought the Colonel Popper. I love this microwave popper. I was skeptical about this 100% silicone pinch test claim and I'd already bought another brand off Amazon awhile back. That other brand failed the pinch test meaning it had non-silicone filler in the product and the handles were always too hot to touch after using. So I bought the Colonel Popper. No white during the pinch test. My old jar of popcorn popped perfectly, with only 2 kernels unpopped. No burnt popcorn in my 1300W microwave, and the bowl handles were cool to the touch. I'm not skeptical anymore--make sure to get 100% silicone that passes the test.

Colonel Popper, we Salute You!! Pops circles around our Air Popper. A REAL WINNER!!
So we already had two popcorn poppers, an air popper and one that pushes the kernels around in circles using oil, and there I was wanting to buy another one. Wife thought I was nuts, but it was recommended by Rick the Cheapskate. We eat ALOT of Popcorn and I wanted something easy to clean that didn't leave half the kernels un-popped. We SCORED!! First try I used a tablespoon of butter-flavored oil and a quarter up of popcorn. POW! Most of the kernels popped and the few that didn't went back into the microwave, and most of them popped on the second go-round. Cleanup after using oil was a breeze. The next night I did another batch without oil, just the kernels. POW! Again most of the kernels popped, and the ones that didn't went in again. I'll admit I still had a few widows, but I'm going to throw them into tonight's batch. And the sucker collapses to make storage easier. Bottom line: Colonel Popper's a keeper and I'm ready to give away our other, deficient poppers.

Very nice popper
I am a strong skeptic, so I didn't expect this to work at all. SURPRISE!!! It quickly pops nicely crunchy popcorn leaving only a few "old maids" in the bottom of the bowl. I put the popper back into the microwave for about 1 minute after consuming the popped kernals and the remaining "old maids" popped, creating another small handful of popcorn - nothing burned. I think this is a very good buy if you don't want to spend a bunch of cash on popcorn in a bag and don't want to use those funky packages of microwave popcorn.
