Save yourself $2,000 and get this, now.
Like many Canon shooters I have a tendency to convince myself that I "have" to have that shiny new L-series glass. "My clients will see the difference!" I say as I push the "Buy Now" button and watch $2300 disappear from my dwindling bank account yet again. No more - this lens has broken my curse. I have been shooting L-series glass for the past ten years for both personal and professional work and I have never seen a third-party lens this good, let alone on the RF mount. I have never owned a Samyang lens but this 85mm is tack sharp, so much so that I actually saw a reduction in sharpness with even my highest quality filters attached - this thing deserves to be left to shoot in the raw. The included lens hood is large and does great at keeping the front element safe without a UV filter in place. The colors run warm and with a green tint, but in a pleasing way. The vignette is strong, but easily corrected and I find myself leaving it in more and more rather than adding a vignette from Lightroom. Build quality is excellent. The lens box was shipped in the flimsiest paper bag which was ripped open during shipping and horribly re-taped by USPS. The lens inside was perfectly fine, in line with comments by others that this thing is hardy. The focus ring has a long throw, but that is absolutely necessary if you decide to focus manually at f/1.4 where you want finer focus adjustments. The autofocus on my EOS R is excellent and the lens keeps up just fine with eye-detect focus in AI Servo mode on portrait subjects walking directly towards the camera, probably one of the hardest focus situations when DOF is so shallow. Maybe 1 in 5 shots under that scenario has focus slightly off and I get the same results with my L-series glass.Honestly, this lens has made me question how much money I could have saved beforehand by not just defaulting to only buying L-series glass. This is an excellent piece of kit with a personality all its own that renders the world tack sharp where it needs to and buttery smooth elsewhere. Embrace that personality and it will give you some excellent images.

Bang for buck
I'm more of a hobbyist rather than a professional but I've done a handful of weddings and this lens never failed me. I use the a7iii and riii . It's isnt the quickest to focus, but neither is the g-master. Sharpness is excellent at 1.4. I did not use it for video so I can't talk on that part. The photos straight out of the camera come with a warmer color and the bokeh that it creates has a uniqueness to it.I later found the g-master on a steal of a price used and bought it just because of the value but honestly the upgrade was incremental outside of bragging rights to say you have a gm lens. I had this lens for 3 years without any issues

I love it. Manual focus is tough but auto works great. 1.4 f makes great portraits!

Great Lens But...
20 March 2023 - I returned the product and was refunded by Amazon within one day of them receiving the product. The best part of my shopping experience was the service received from Amazon. I remain hopeful that Samyang will improve the quality of their lenses thereby not wasting the consumers time. My recommendation to Amazon is to remove all Samyang products until they improve the quality of their products. GOOD LUCK SAMYANG.06 March 2023 - I've decided to return the item for a refund. I hope Samyang will improve on their quality checking during production and prior to dispatch.04 March 2023, 6 Days after delivery:This morning at a video shoot this lens let me down on both AF and MF, it just would not focus when using my BlackMagic 6k G2 Camera. I changed the lens to a Canon EF 50mm AF ISTM and it worked perfectly, then I used a Canon EF 100mm MF lens following that I tested the camera with a Canon EFS 17mm-85mm AF USM lens and it also worked perfectly fine.I have a Samyang 50mm RF MF lens which works 100% Awesome on my Canon R6, so in general I am very satisfied with Samyang lenses I was super excited when they released an AF lens and had to be one of the first to try it out.Quick Disclaimer:Although Canon makes good lenses they are way overpriced when compared to the Samyang range of lenses. I remain a Samyang fan and trust they will resolve this problem in best interest of all their supporters. The Samyang lens is a super solid lens I cannot fault the construction of it.What Next:This coming week I will test the Samyang EF 85mm AF lens on my Canon R6 using a convertor and report by on my finding by editing this post. Maybe the lens needs a Firmware Update but I find it hard to justify the additional cost which brings me back to the Samyang MF lens which I am very fond of which suits my specific requirement for the BlackMagic 6k G2 Camera. I have other Camcorders with great lenses which have many functions Among other supper AF too. So my requirement for the Samyang lens is specific to my BlackMagic 6k G2 for which I do not really need AF right need but it will be a bonus if it works.Regardless of my challenges with this lens I have upped my rating to five stars as a believe in the Samyang lens and their ability to resolve this.I will continue reviewing giving updating this post with my journey.03 March 2023, 5 Days after delivery:I recently received my lens which i purchased for a BlackMagic 6k G2 Camera and thus far I like it but... my advice to you.1. If you don't need AF then rather save your money and purchase a MF lens.2. The lens has an EXTREMELY shallow depth of field which makes the AF really insignificant as it continues to refocus the whole time and at times I've discovered that the refocus stops for now reason at all and you need to remount the lens, so thus far I've used this AF lens on MF.3. I have the exact same lens but RF Mount and MF for my Canon R6 and the quality is the same.4. When holding the lens up to a bright light I can clearly see the glass is not 100 pure as it has a what seems like freckles, not sure what the exact wording would be.5. Maybe a firmware update with fix some of these problems but that is at an additional cost.In summary I may return the lens within my 30 day window and rather purchase two MF lenses for approximately the same price as one AF lens.I hope my comments is of value to you

M focus mode issue.
Good quality, nice appearance. There is something bad when you are using as M focus mode, it cannot stay at what you focused at. The focal plane will automatically move a little bit.
