I am far from what you would call a "handy" person so after reading the earlier reviews here, I ordered this with some trepidation. Fortunately, my concerns were unwarranted as I've had a very good experience with this product.Installation took about a half hour as I was very careful to follow the instructions to the letter. One item you may run into has to do with the handle for the flue. Trust me when I say that taking the handle off if it's going to impede the install in any way is a good thing. My plug fit pretty well after removing the handle. I think one of the keys was following the recommendation for inflating before install (4-5 'blows", etc.). I will say I had to adjust the installation a bit, but it was merely to insure a tight seal. I simply tucked the corners a hair and then gave a little more air to the plug.Again, I was very nervous to try installing this item and planned for the worst. But I ended up with an excellent seal and our house is much warmer because of it! The plug is of a good quality and I hope it lasts for years to come!

Before ordering, I worried about which size was right for me and I spent some time trying to figure out my measurements. Now that it has arrived I realize that probably either size would have worked for me as it is oversized. What you do is blow it up partially with just 6 breaths of air and then you place inside the fireplace with the edges upward and the telescoping prop device holding up the middle. Then you inflate it until it is in place and close the valve. It was very easy and took only minutes. I am very pleased with this purchase and am expecting to save on energy costs.

It's a nice concept, but for the price I paid ($52), I would expect higher quality. It's made in America, which is great. The plastic support can bend pretty easily, which made it tricky to get inside my 1876 chimney. A simple, straight chimney would be more ideal for it. Once installed, it's pretty well fixed our draft problem.We ordered three of these, and one of them arrived with a slice already through it, like someone poked it with a box cutter. We've tried using duct tape, but it's proven to be too weak for the pressure. We may just resort to using real pillows instead.

Need something to plug off the chimney of our fireplace since we don't intend to use it. This item does the job, is easy to install, but be sure of your measurements. We measured inside the chimney as instructed to get the size we needed, but still was a little too small. Installed anyway and stuffed insulation around it to get a good seal. is saving energy by not allowing heat/air to escape. Would purchase again.

This product effectively reduces drafts caused by open fire place flues. I use in a fire place that I have removed the gas burning element and replaced with an electric element. It works well, it does not create a perfect seal, at least not in my case. However, it is a huge improvement. It also reduces the air-traffic noise from the airport. All in all, a very good investment.

I'm giving this fireplace plug one star for two reasons:1. I am not able to use this plug on my Heatilator masonry fireplace because there are two metal flanges that hang down on either side of the flu that would prevent a good seal (and would probably puncture the balloon over time.)2. Ace Hardware Outlet assesses a 10-25% restocking fee on returns.Take a flashlight and check your fireplace before ordering this product to make sure that there aren't any sharp or obtrusive objects that would get in the way of installation.For Heatilator owners: Our unit has a draft coming from the grate below the fireplace doors which would not be stopped by this plug. If you have a heatilator and don't use it often, consider taping plastic over the entire opening when the fireplace is not in use.

I was happy with this product however with the way the pole attaches to the plug its kind of hard positioning it because it rolls to easy and makes it hard to keep it flat. I finaly took some duct tape and taped the horizontal pole to the plug to keep it from rolling.
