Good story
I like this series. Generally has plots that can hold one’s attention and are not so simple to solve before the end of the book.

The Diva is back!
Yes! Sophia's back!!! A most entertaining book starring the old gang and new friends in Old Town (Alexandria), Va. Hilarious antics with her arch frenemy Natasha who continuous to be clueless about Sophia's and Mars red hot chemistry/ attraction that is obvious to all but her. A Clark griswald light competition that is too funny for words. Along with a bizarre cookie exchange party at a neighbors house. BFF sidekick Nina is around, her mysterious husband who is yet to be seen ( why is that ?) is not.Just a side note: I could not get into the last one? : the "Diva digs up the Dirt," where old BF Wolf stars left right and center with the wifey mystery. I'm still in the dark a year or so later with that novel as to what the hell is going on with Wolf. I'm also beginning to think that Sophia might never find a partner /boyfriend, worthy of her. Come on already 7 or 8 books later , we the readers want Kind hearted Sophia to have a HEA with someone!!! IMO Sophie belongs with Mars, Natasha is a fruit loop and every man that Sophia "dates," doesn't ever get but a few pages since Wolf and basically the dating/relationship goes no where fast.In this book, the card board cut out lawyer she is dating; we finally see a very small/tiny brief interaction between the two (YES it takes that long!!) towards the end of the book, and it is boring with a capitol B.Having said all that, the best thing I like about these books are the homey, cozy scenes. It makes me want to step into the fab kitchen every time Sophia's is cooking whipping up a meal, Natasha's crazy antics ( where everyone and I mean everyone treats her like a 5 year old (indulging in her childish petulant behavior), the way Sophia's kitchen is like, "Cheers bar" and the gang gathers for pow wow's. And lastly, how 7 times out of ten I can't guess who the murderer is, because the plot is so tied up in multiple story lines.I think this series is brilliant and can't wait for the next Diva book. I usually finish all the Diva books in one sitting. I appreciate all the time and effort that goes into writing any book let alone two different series, having said that, this is one time I feel the author K. Davis should have stuck to her winning formula and the "Diva" series. I am probably in the minority here though. I read the first book in the new series and it just didn't hold my interest at all. I found it rather boring.I will just wait patiently until next year, for the next Diva book, fingers crossed that there will be a new one. Happy reading! Enjoy....

Desperate housewives
Intrigue and competition abound in the neighborhood and many people are implicated in a murder. Some good cookie recipes follow.

It was far more better than anything I read in a long time.
Sophie, Nina, Mars, Bernie and Natasha plus - the milling lovable (and less pleasant) crowd of known and unknown characters. All of them make a great, fantastic climate of friendship. As always, but in this part I felt it more - mystery was VERY good and multi-layered, however, later, everything boiled to one thing, which was also superb. Mrs. Scroggins - oh, the development of this so far unknown character within the story was so nice and heart-warming. I expected this - of course - but so what? It was still very, Christmas-y:)I enjoyed that Wolf and Alex were played down. I still am not so sure about Mars - perhaps it would be a nice ending (climax?) of the series to have Soph and Mars get back to each other and re-marry. It always makes an interesting afterthought that he doesn't marry Nat. I understand the idea that being divorced they are better friends, but... wouldn't that be nice? :)I loved the Christmas theme - wish I could 'un-read' it and have it for Christmas in half a year :) Mars and Bernie's decorating Sophie's house was just precious!Hope to have at least short story about the Divas before the end of the year. That would really make my year! :) Thank you Ms Davis for this amazing series, so enjoyable and really cozy.

A Taste Treat of a Book
When I reviewed the first three books, I listed five pros and five cons. The pros were the characters (human, canine, feline and avian), the well-handled plot threads, the absence of hints to solutions of earlier books, the quotes from the rival divas’ columns, and the way the recipes were tied in to the plot. All these are still apparent and deftly handled in this book. All the clues a mystery-lover could wish for are there and handled so subtly that they work well as just part of the story. And the story itself is quite complicated without ever getting itself or the reader lost in its twists and turns. The cons that had to do with the plotting and the solutions no longer apply. The perpetual match-making attempts by Sophie’s parents and friends are still there, but less strident. The wardrobe changes of the main characters are fewer and described in less detail.Possibly because this book was generally much better written, two cons seemed more noticeable. The cliff-hanger endings to every chapter get old and detract from the interest and contrast of the divas’ columns. And Sophie should tell Natasha to go take a hike, jump in the Potomac or just plain MIND HER OWN BUSINESS!!That said, I really liked this entry in the series and am looking forward to Book 9. And salivating at the thought of more recipes.

The characters are fun and there is enough plot and twists that you don't get bored or easily predict whodunnit. I think the book is also well written, I very much enjoy her style of writing. I'd recommend the entire series, not just this book.
