Flawed ... but worth the purchase price
The problem I find constantly with textbooks ... and I teach college ... is that the authors all start to ASSUME after a few lessons. Assume = very bad word. Though this is a well thought out textbook with a great spiral binding, clear images, and a data base of required Gerber patterns, the author starts to make assumptions about the readers knowledge after a few lessons. For example, once she has explained how to "Fold/Close" a dart, she never repeats that instruction, but assumes that you remember from the first instruction or guides you to re-read the chapter ... where often the pattern is very different or the measurements are different. When you are teaching ... you can't do this. You have to lay out "bread crumbs" so that students can follow the "trail" as they build their confidence and learn. I spent time proving these instructions, often correcting them and then providing a deliberate, digital instruction sheet for every lesson. I also add in the often omitted, but essential, "User Input: VALUE" or "User Input: CURSOR" every time. On chapter 14, Ruffle Dress, the page 230 explains the ruffle pattern piece, which has been extract from the dress foundation and is simply a rectangle, as "1. To draft the ruffle seam line at the hem, offset a line -5.5 inches up from the hem. 2. Extract the pattern pieces and save the pattern." Understand that the final ruffle pattern is a semi-circle and not a rectangle. Where are the instructions to turn the rectangle into semi-circular ruffle pieces? Well ... go paging through the book, chapter after chapter, to find a pattern which is sort of the same. A huge failing in my humble opinion. Also, not without error. My copy is filled with pencil notations. Another repeated failing amongst authors is that they do not consistently use the same grammar or words, but often flip between names and titles. Again, not consistent and leads to doubt and student questions. If you title something one way, then it is prudent to title it the same way constantly. The same applies to laying out instructions.

Shoddy Editing - DISAPPOINTING!
This book had so many mistakes. I used it for CAD Pattern Making and my professor had to make corrections on every lesson. There are mistakes on Spec Sheets, Cutters Must, and Technical Design sheets. The Author and editor need to revise this book and make much need corrections to it.
