Great waterstone
I purchased this after realizing I needed a medium grit stone in between my coarse dry stone and my King Ice Bear 4000 Grit Waterstone . This stone functions flawlessly. Out of the box (packaged nicely by KORIN) you will get the stone and some instructions in Japanese. Most of it (from reading the Chinese characters in the text that mean the same in Japanese) regards proper use and safety while using, so I think you'd be fine there. The stone is hefty, more so than you would think. The surface is a lot coarser than my 4000 grit waterstone. One thing to note is that this is a synthetic waterstone, instead of a natural waterstone. This means that this will not produce a slurry like a natural waterstone, will last longer, but cut slower, and is prone to clogging by steel. As I have some time on my hands, I chose this stone. After getting the basic edge shape done with a coarse dry stone, it was time to refine the edge with this. To use this stone, one would flood it with water. I run the tap over it until I can see the water stay on top of the stone instead of disappearing within the depths of the stone. First time sharpening this it worked like a charm. During sharpening some red particulates emerge from the surface and float to the top of the water. This is simply the cutting particles coming loose from the sharpening action and floating away after cutting into the metal. I was able to get the previously crap grind on my Cold Steel Frontier Hawk Hickory Handle into a very nice proper axe grind and a very serviceable convex edge in about half an hour. This stone, while not as fast as a natural stone, worked perfectly for my purposes. Flawless sharpening, flawless cleanup. I further refined the edge with the 4000 grit stone, as I do not own a leather strop. As I will eventually destroy the edge anyway from working on trails, I don't mind not having my tools razor sharp. All in all, this stone was a great purchase. Its size and longevity will ensure that it will be used for a long time, and its effectiveness allows it to remain in my tool box as my primary sharpening stone. Great purchase, and worthwhile for anyone who prefers to hand sharpen their equipment.

Great medium stone for the price.
Great maintenance stone. Has good feedback for a stone this price. It will help get the feel for sharpening. It's not the most wear resisting but it's so thick it will last forever. To reset bevels or repair damaged edges you need a coarser stone, but for touch ups and maintenance this is a great choice!

Never Disappointed With KING!
Been using KING for years on my Field and Kitchen Cutlery. They have maintained their quality and am happy with the purchase. Will continue to recommend. This one came at a great price. Should have bought more of this grit but will last me another 2 years at least.

Excellent 1k water stone regardless if price
I have a ton of water stones, many much more expensive ones and honestly I prefer the King to many of them. It's relatively hard and slow wearing and offers excellent feedback and feel. It's a true 1000 grit stone. It doesn't cut quite as quickly as some 1ks but leaves a beautiful hazy 1k finish. I've mostly used it on cheaper stainless knives and some carbon steel Japanese knives and it does very well with those. I haven't tried too many "super steels" so I can't really comment on performance there. Bottom line is don't look down your nose at King stones because they are more affordable. There's nothing wrong with them at all. I have experience with much pricier stones from Naniwa, Shapton, Suehiro, Imanishi etc. and honestly this stone isn't a slouch in comparison. Will serve 95% of people very well. They're the best bang for your buck IMO. Another King stone I have high praise for is the King Deluxe 300, it's very hard, releases abrasive at a perfect rate, wears slowly and stays flat well for a coarse grit water stone and cuts very quickly. It's excellent as is this one

Despite my 4 stars rating, This stone is great
This is the first whetstone I started with, coming from diamond plates, This stone is a fantastic stone despite my 4 star rating instead of 5, it was great to learn on and it always did the job without a bit of trouble, it has a very responsive feel being a softer stone, it had no problem sharpening any of my knives (they top out at 61 rockwell, and probably 57ish on the softer steels), and it left an extremely uniform scratch pattern...the reason it didn't get the 5 stars, is due to the fact that it is slower cutting than a lot of more modern stones (albeit they are usually a few dollars more, but in a similar price range anyway), which may work to your advantage If you're just learning, and it does dish and wear fairly fast being a soft stone, but I wasn't needing to flatten it regularly so the stone should last a good long time (maybe once every other week, i enjoy sharpening and while learning i sharpened probably 7 or 8 knives twice a week, including a second grit in thinning, but i do try to move to different areas of the stone, to minimize dishing in one spot)...also in my limited experience I do believe this stone is true to grit and a great value that I would recommend to any beginner or just someone who may be on a budget

second #2000 king deluxe ive ordered, no ragrets, not even 1 letter!
out of 8 whetstones, this is my most used/favourite. the only reason im buying a second one is because i left my first one in canada. i have sharpened well over 1000+ items, ranging from small pocket knives, to swords. as long as you have a steady hand, this is a work horse that gets you a solid edge ready for a mirror finish. you will need a 6000-8000 grit to put the final touch on a blade, but this is by far my go to, to get it where you want to go. i have tried many other stones compared to this.. and this takes the cake hands down. keep it a secret.. because i dont want the price to go up! might order another as backup for the future..

Great stone for a great price
The King 2000 takes a while to get here from Japan, but it’s a nice whetstone for sharpening most common chef knife steel. Dunno if it would cut some of the “super steels” like HAP40 or such, but leaves a nice edge on my Shirogami 2 and Aogami Super blades, and it has nice feedback.
