We Heart Sheepy
I got the "travel size" sheep. Even this size is larger than expected, about what I would consider a normal stuffed animal size. I like that it has straps to attach to a crib or stroller, but I do wish the straps could be tucked away. You should be warned that the straps are especially long, and they absolutely will stick to Sheepy's fluff and rip at it if you're not careful when you unstrap it.I'm conflicted about the buttons being on the outside of Sheepy. It makes them very accessible, which is nice when I'm tired. I know waves is two from the bottom. When she's older she'll easily be able to push the button herself. But it does make it considerably less cuddly, because there's no way to tuck away the massive back panel, which means the cute stuffed animal face is largely just for show. It also means the buttons can be bumped by accident. Two of the sounds we find just plain strange - whale calls and what sounds like "after rain" with dripping water and bird calls. It doesn't feel much like a nighttime wind-down noise. I think those would be better purposed slots as heartbeat and heavy rain (sans thunder, of course) or lullaby. It's a bit disappointing that travel size only comes in sheep, but we do take a small measure of joy calling it her "sleep sheep".My biggest concern with buying Sheepy was that it's entirely battery based. But this is actually the reason it got 5 stars instead of 4. My daughter is 8 months old now, has used Sheepy 2-3xs a night since she was a newbie, and it's still going strong.Overall, I appreciate that it's a simple, affordable, cute sound machine that doesn't require my smart phone or an app, just an old school button.

Life-saver! Something we didn't even know we'd need
We didn't know that white noise would be such a life-saver in getting our newborn/infant son to sleep, but once we did, we used iPhone/iPad apps and the vacuum/washer/dryer for white noise. Then we got this as a gift and we LOVE LOVE LOVE it. Didn't know about these before and wish we had!! The white noise apps just drain the battery on your devices really quickly, and of course you don't want to spend your life sitting next to the dryer or vacuum. We actually got a second one so we'd have one for trips in the car (attached to the car seat) and one for the crib/nursery. That is how much we like this and how much it helps our son. A friend of mine said the same thing, and that her 3 year old still uses his and her almost 1 year old also really benefits from this. The noise options are nice too (our personal favorite is the ocean, but the rain and the stream options are nice too - the whale one is our least favorite) and we really like the choice between 25 and 45 minutes for the timer. We use this a lot and the battery seems to last a long time too.Update:We thought that this would be the exact same product as our sleep sheep, but the machine part actually has different noise options than the one that came with the sheep - there are two noises that are the same (rain and ocean, I believe) and there are two that are different. One is (in our opinion) a really creepy imitation of a kid giggling, and one is a lullaby type song. I personally wish the noise choices were like our other one, and was very surprised that it was different, but as we used the rain and ocean options the most anyway, it's not too much of an inconvenience.

Some limitations, but really high quality
So we just went through colic and the dreaded 4 month sleep regression phase. When we moved our baby to her own room around 3 months, we put a floor fan in there for white noise. Her wall is right next to our TV room, her brother is next door and a loud 2 year old, and her big window is right on a busy street. And she was never a really good sleeper. While for some babies (lucky lucky parents) a sleep machine is all you need - for us we knew it was just a stress-reliever for us, so that we wouldn't have to worry that noises were interfering with her sleep. (We could tick that item off the list and move on.) The fan was just way too cold.So I purchased the sound machine (marpac 980a, see other reviews) and this sheep. I got this sheep for the car actually, as one other reviewer had mentioned it helped their baby not scream in the carseat. After looking at both (the marpac and the sheep) - the marpac ended up in her room for consistent white noise all night, and the sheep went in the car. I didn't want to worry that the timer function was the reason for poor sleep (ie when she wakes up at night, she can't go back to sleep because the sheep is no longer on - tick another thing off the list!) The sheep is really soft.Unfortunately, the sheep did not keep her from screaming in the car seat. However - it is great for me! It is now in our bedroom, hanging next to the bed - and it has been FANTASTIC for me - as sleep deprived as I have been, it is often really hard for me to get back to sleep after getting up to feed or tend to her or my son if he's sick and really needs me in the middle of the night. Had tried muscle relaxation, all that other stuff that I usually don't need, but it wouldn't work. Have used a sound machine in the past (not the marpac) and hated it. The ones I have tried before all sound tinny or annoyingly inconsistent. The rain setting on this sheep, and the timer are perfect for me - have no trouble falling back to sleep at any time.Thank you sleep sheep!!!!!!!
