PlayStation Portable Limited Edition Daxter Entertainment Pack - Ice Silver

I got this just months before the newer, upgraded PSP (the 3000) was released. Just the same, I've very much enjoyed the console. This particular bundle comes with the game "Daxter" (a Jak and Daxter title set between Jak I and II), and a UMD sampler of Family Guy episodes. It also has a small memory stick, just to get you started.It's interesting how the console wars have played out: Nintendo's DS is, like the Wii, an excellent gaming device, but little else. The PSP follows closely in the PS3's footsteps by trying to be less of a gaming console and more of a media player. It's much bulkier than a Zune or an iPod, but if you're someone who plans on playing games, you can't ask for better. The PSP's screen is bright and colorful. Its "cartridges" are actually tiny optical discs called "UMDs" (for "Universal Mini-Disc"), but Sony planned ahead and assembled them in plastic cartridge cases to cut down on dust and scratches. The unit runs for a decent amount of time on the batteries, varying depending on how bright you set the screen and whether you're playing a disc or reading directly off a Memory Stick.And that's where the potential grows: by using Memory Stick technology to enable you to store files, you're now capable of putting together a collection of just about any media you wish: I have a small stick of photos and a large stick for videos that also holds my savegames.I've been very impressed by the quality of most of the games I've played on the PSP, and I was pleasantly surprised at how many games there are out there to choose from--I really had no idea. All the same, there are cons: UMD movies never really took off, so they're on their way out as a format. While there is wireless networking, it's really not good for Internet use: online multiplayer gaming works fine, but the browser is not so good, and trying to type even a password to log into your e-mail can get downright infuriating. You can subscribe to RSS feeds and read content using the PSP, but it's going to take you some time and tinkering to get it going.There are some interesting extras to the PSP, however. Not only has Sony been trying to improve the quality and features with product updates, but the integration with the PS3 is pretty tight: I can sit at home and access media files through the PS3. I can read shared media on any multimedia server in my home network (for instance, my Vista machine has made it very easy to listen to my music collction). I can use a media reader to transfer files of any kind back and forth, I've used both the PS3 and a PC to buy games online and download them to the unit, and as if that isn't enough: if I load a PlayStation (PS One) game into the PS3, I can play it from anywhere--even away from home--by "connecting" to my PS3 over the Internet. I'm not sure why only PS 1 titles work, but it's still an interesting extra feature: I actually have some pretty good PS 1 titles still around.If you're looking for portable fun, and you have a PS3, the PSP is really the logical choice for you. If you have no interest in media, or you're thinking of something for smaller children, you might want to go with the Nintendo DS: it's a little less fragile, and there are more games for all ages. As for this grown-up gamer and his 9-year-old daughter, we've had a hit on our hands.Some add-ons you should consider: a larger Memory Stick, a plastic carrying case (the official Sony case is bulky, but very good), and if you want to have some fun on the big screen, you can buy an audio-video cable to connect to your television (again, Sony's brand-name has turned out better than the aftermarket cable I tried).

I got this psp with some left over balance on a gift card I won from Microsoft. I won $250 and I bought rockband for my girlfriends son for $100. I took amazon up on a credit card offer at the time and I think I ended up spending $14 out of pocket for this psp after it was all said and done. Not too shabby. Thanks Microsoft!This psp is great. It was a replacement for the exact same one that met an unfortunate demise at the hands of an angry significant other. Just a note to all the guys out there be good too your lady's if you want your gizmos to live there full expected life. I saw some loser get his ps3 destroyed by his poor little sad girlfriend who wasn't getting any attention anymore on the internet just the other day. Don't think he had a job either which is never a good situation to put yourself into if your trying to love someone. Anyway, back to this psp. The psp is a great platform I think these are superior to the new go thingy. Not sure if they are better than the 3000 version. Haven't used one of those yet. I have used the original psp and I don't have any issues with that one other than it feels heavy after you use the slim and it is not as supported software and hardware wise anymore. I like the original and I have nothing against it tho but I would recommend this psp or the 3000. The go is cute and all but the screen is smaller and there is no umd drive. This slim psp or the 3000 version is going to give you all you need to enjoy the psp to its fullest potential. The go is all about the digital download but this psp and the 3000 are capable of the same task. I'm not sure what the max storage capacity is on the psp but I'm pretty sure you can go all the way up to 32 gigabyte memory card on this so that is not bad. This time next year 32gb will be cheap because the memory cards are going to light speed this year and skipping right to terabytes. You can also circumvent the duo card with an adapter there is one here on Amazon that takes two micro sd cards. You can save a little money this way and then you get another format card type to use in another device should you choose too. People have been reporting no compatibility problems with these cards.Lets move on to another comparison as far as the ipod touch and iphone is concerned. I love the ipod touch as well and I do like gaming on it. However, this little machine is dedicated to gaming it does a bunch of other stuff but the iphone and touch just cannot touch the graphics this has yet. It may not be exactly as interactive or have the motion sensing control but it looks so much better. In my opinion.I wish Sony would update the flash in these devices. I'm not sure if it can handle it tho and that's probably why they haven't. You can use this to get on the internet. It has come in handy before but don't expect a full web experience but the same can be said of the touch and iphone's flash capability's. Although the ipod can do the flash Apple just has it locked up right now sound familiar? The music player is great the video player is great. If you have wifi nearby you can listen to streaming internet radio which is awesome. You can hook this up to your tv don't know what it looks like. I guess that's a good point to make to. This thing does so much I haven't even used all the features yet. It has the comic books now too that's pretty interesting. I downloaded some free ones and was pleasantly surprised at how fun it was to use.If you are going to get a psp I would check and see what people think of the 3000 because that may be the one to get. You won't go wrong if you end up with this one if that's what you choose. I would skip the go altogether I wanted to like that little guy but I just don't I think I'll wait for the PSP2 before I make that mistake.Oh yeah you can mod these if your into that. My girlfriends son is trying to do that with the original psp we had laying around. He says you can play all kind of old school games with it and do other things as well. Good luck!
