The best available, period.
This product has been around for decades. It is well made of medium gauge brass, 20-22 ga. I own the brass so I am unsure of the gauge of the copper or tin versions. It’s top fits reasonably tight, but I use it not as a tobacco box but as a case for my fire starting kit.It holds my steel striker, some jute kindling/ nesting material, flint pieces and a bag of charcloth. I stuff the box to it’s capacity so I cut a thin piece of suede leather to cover the burning glass lens inside the box from scratches, while the cover keeps the outside safe snd can act as a cup for burning tinder to make transporting it to your fire easy.I made a plaid drawstring bag for the box to help keep it closed when in my pack. It’s the best tinderbox / case I have seen and it is a period correct item for anyone needed that. For me it looks old world because it is, it holds my fire kit and keeps it all together and offers a good burning lens built into the cap. It will age and patina and eventually tell as many stories about my camping trips than I can myself.

Works great with char cloth
I used it on a piece of char cloth and it caught in less then a minute. I made a bunch of char cloth and store it inside, A great fire starting kit, as long as the sun shines!

Nice tin with one minor design flaw
This is a really cool tin that holds a good amount of fire-starting material and supplies. I’ve not tried to use the magnifying glass, but I don’t see any reason it wouldn’t work in a pinch. The raw brass has already started to develop a nice patina even though it has seen very limited use to this point. My only gripe is that the edge of the lid doesn’t have any sort of a rolled edge and it’s occasionally it’s a bit of a challenge to get it lined up properly on the bottom. Perhaps a bit overpriced for what it is, but definitely a nicer alternative to a simple aluminum tin.

Excellent addition to a fire kit
I bought this to be a part of my fire kit, and it holds my frizzen striker and a few pieces of knapped chert in a sof piece of leather. I also used a stiffer piece to protect the lens from inside the box. Honestly, I have yet to use the lens for fire starting, I’m usually too lazy to do anything but use my 1/2” x 6” ferrocerium rod for quick fires. But the box looks nice and I know the lens will work if I ever decide to use it.

Nice stuff
Great piece of kit to add to your fire system. Highly recommend. Good quality, looks like it came out of a museum.

Too thin
The stamped metal used is too thin. It bends putting the lid back on. For this premium price you'd think they wouldn't have cheaped out on materials.

Fantastic just wish was a lil deeper
Absolutely awesome! my only complaint is i wish it were a lil deeper, as i use it for a primitive fire kit and wish i had just a lil bit more room. But if you are on the fence, just get it you wont regret it
