durable strong simple long lasting i've had several of this model
Unsure why one went bad in the reviews but I've had these for over 20 years and one may have saved my life. They go in all vehicles and life jacket. Last 10+++ hours with new alkaline battery (no lithium in cold) at -20 degrees. Think, If they find your drown or frozen body and the light is still flashing, you made at least one decision correctly. Keep your battery fresh, carry a spare battery, and grease/ waterproof the assembly threads. This is not a joke!Addendum. 1)pretest 2) Found one that failed. May have been a clone. Had a magnet (poor) and a metal switch that rotted. Remember simple plastic switched models only and epoxy on a decent magnet if you need one. Good luck

We ordered four. Only two worked.
We have purchased these before, and have two already. It does seem like the new ones are cheaper quality wise compared the older ones, and the fact that two out of the four don’t work seems to bear that out a bit?

Great on my pack
As this unit is Coast Guard approved, I'm sure it can take a beating clipped to my pack. The "D" cell does add some weight.
