Works well and looks Good!
I read a lot of reviews about this product, including someone's book in the reviews! When I put this on, yes there is a gap, but I adjusted my screws and the clips to set the gap where I wanted it. When I was reviewing the parts that came with this item I did see TWO types of screws (some reviews said the screws given didn't fit). This is important since one type of screw is for the brackets that go into the hood and the other is for the clips that come with the bug shield. Make sure to take your time and understand that the pointed "wood" screws go into the hood clips, and the flat tips go into the clips that fit into the hood and the bug shield (the ones in the middle). Now that I explained how to put this on, I have to say it's a great item for the Taco! I wanted a bug shield and did not want something that was big and bulky. Also, this item is not for back country, no lights anywhere places, but for country/city it's perfect. I live in Keller, TX. which is a suburban area and a my family has a farm north of us, so we get some bug issues but if I was going to the dark parts of South Africa or West Texas I may buy a different bug shield. I have see were bugs and pebbles avoid the windshield since I put this item on and I have also notices that it holds on well to the 10,000 mph water and the 25,000 mph blower from the local drive through car wash. Good luck and hope this helps.

Poor
Had to remove the 3 cushions and washers on the center fasteners for there to be enough clearance for the hood shut. Also, had to tie a lanyard on the hood release, in order to open the hood. There is not enough room to access the hood release when the hood bug deflector is installed. Not an easy install, had to attempt to install the bug deflector 2 times before it was installed successfully. Very poor design. Would not recommend this product for this vehicle model.

Almost Perfect
Gave this a 4 star due to a few missing washers and the screws underneath the hood was way too big for the small plugs and could not screw them in place. So I went my local HomeDepot to pick up some screws that would fit.Overall a really good product that was easy to install. I also noticed that my hood stopped vibrating as much while driving, which is a plus due to the hood adhesive issue.

Great fit and instructions
Product was great. I tried two other brands. I won't mention their names and they did not fit. I could not get my hood closed. People buy this one. You won't be disappointed.

Easy install, works great!
I was worried that this wouldn’t deflect all the bugs but shortly after installing it we took a 1000 mile drive through Texas and it kept the hood squeaky clean. I’ll definitely buy another once this one give out.

Not as nice as I expected
Looks great from a distance, but when you get up to it,very disappointing. The 3 screws in front makes it look cheap. I don't understand why those screws are not more under the hood like the side screws. Other than that looks good.

I Really Wanted To Like This Product
Grab some popcorn:After driving to a friend's house who lives about 20 minutes away from me getting bombarded with bugs on the windshield, and also noticing that my hood has quite a bit of fine scratches after only being 5 months old, I decided to purchase a hood protector / bug deflector. So I hopped onto Tacoma World and browsed the forums for a good option. The usual products came up - WeatherTech, AVS, etc. There was a gentleman swearing that this product is the best one and he will never use any of the other big brand names again because this one is so good. He posted some pictures of his truck with it and, to an extent, this one does look a bit better than the competitors being matte black as opposed to gloss black (personal preference), but that's where the good ends. While I began installing this product, I noticed that the deflector doesn't really line up 100% with the mounting points that the instructions show; not a huge deal since it can be manipulated a bit, but it does make following the instructions and marking the correct locations a little more difficult. After I lined everything up the way I liked, I began to install the self-tapping screws on the underside of the hood. The instructions say you get 4 of them... I only got 3. So I drove down to the Lowe's by my house and got another set of self-tapping screws that matched the original; no big deal, just a minor inconvenience.I proceeded to mount the deflector and secured the underside with the aforementioned screws.I then went to screw the top on with the included brackets that sit on your hood. The instructions say to use the remaining 3 regular screws for this part... I only got 2.So I found another screw laying around that matched the originals and thought everything would be fine... I was wrong. Both the 2 included screws and my screw did not fit the included brackets that the directions say they go into. I barely was able to make them screw in by one or two threads just so they don't fall off, but that shouldn't be the case.Regardless after installation, I was excited to see how it would work.I went and washed my truck and was happy that the soap and water freely ran under the protector so nothing would get stuck behind the deflector, but that's about the last positive for me.Last night I drove back to my friend's house ready to test the effectiveness of the deflector flinging those pesky bugs away from my windshield. As I was on a dimly lit section of the freeway with a few cars ahead of me, I heard light tapping on my windshield and thought it was small pebbles getting redirected from scratching up my hood some more and was quite impressed. When I got off the freeway and approached some street lights, I realized that the "tapping" noise was really just bugs slamming into my windshield. Literally my whole windshield was covered in guts I wish I took some pictures before immediately rinsing my windshield off once I got to my friend's house. So to conclude - It may or may not look better than the competition, I got the wrong screw set twice, the correct screws don't even fit into their designated bracket, and it doesn't even work, it probably made the issue even worse. After having this on for a few weeks, I'm going to take it off tomorrow and try to return it or just sell it. I probably won't ever buy a bug deflector again because this was my first one and left a pretty bad impression on me for how these things work. If you're absolutely still determined to get one though... please do yourself a favor and buy one from the big brand names and not this one.
