Terrific item
This scanner is a wonderful product! Its purpose is unique and valuable - when you need to have a copy of documents but don't have access to take the documents with you or get them copied. As a lawyer who often needs documents in prison and court, this item is priceless! It doesn't make awesome copies - if you don't run it smoothly over the page you can get distortions. But if your concern is getting info, not perfect images, it's totally adequate. It's very easy to use - you turn it on, push a button, run it over the page fairly quickly, push the button again, and that's it! Later you plug it into the computer, and your images are waiting for you there.I found the battery to last quite long, and the whole thing very convenient.

Good enough to keep 70% of information
I have to say this is still what I needed. I don't know any better.I bought this scanner so keep only the important information instead of borrowing friend's book or the books from library. I didn't want to borrow the thick thick book for one page. I can return the book right away so both my friend and I can feel comfortable. With practicing, I could scan some pages from a book. That book had only 100 pages but it was still a little difficult to deal with. As long I have enough time to keep scanning many times on each page and have enough space on the SD card, it can be okay. When I can't use my PC, it's kind of scarelly for not keeping the information good enough to read it later. I felt like I always have to scan the same page a few times to make sure.Somehow, I couldn't scan my passport. I scanned it from all edges, but it didn't work. The scanner could scan the picture and other stuff, but it couldn't take the information at the middle of the passport. the passport doesn't have too much bump in the middle, but still this scanner didn't take the information. it's not like just 'not clear', it's like the scanner skipps the information at the middle. it's not the security thing, of course.I do hope that this scanner becomes shorter because the scanner itself is longer than the scanning size, which is making it harder to scan a page of a book.about the quality of pages, I liked it with low. and I needed PDF and JPEG, so this product is nice. I just need developed one. I know there is a new one of this, but review was not good enough to buy. This scanner is working with no problem on itself, and this is most important to me. I can at least use this thing for school stuff. hope this helps.

Good for scans when away from home.
There were a number of these type of scanners to choose from and I chose this one because of the price and the good reviews. It requires a SD card, so include that into the price. A small SD card is sufficient, since you will want to transfer the files to your computer. The way the system works is by placing the scanning bar at the top of paper and then manually rolling the scanner to the bottom of the paper. This can be tricky if the page slips. The scan will be distorted if the scanner isn't pulled evenly. There are several settings for dpi, pdf or jpeg, and black and white or color. I usually just do color pdf.The scans that I have done have been of papers, checks to be cashed on-line, a map, and pages out of a travel book. The scans are not going to be perfect unless you have a steadier hand than I do. They all tend to be swerved to one side because I don't pull the scanning bar down straight. However, the scans are good enough for my purposes. When in Europe, it is hard and expensive to cash a check. If you have a US bank, it is usually possible to submit a scan of the signed check over the Internet. Even with a little distortion due to the swerving of the scanning bar, the banks find the scans acceptable. Doing the scan, however, can require a few tries. It is best to have two people, one to move the scanning bar and one to hold the bottom and then the top of the check to keep it from sliding.I was going on a walking trail, but didn't want to bring my large map. It was very convenient to scan the piece of the map that I was walking. Just place the scanner in the middle of the map and drag it down to cover the area of interest. I was asked if it would scan longer than 11 inches, but I have not tried that and do not know. The scan time is not spelled out anywhere other than a signal will be lit if the scan is done too fast. I initially went slow like a mechanical scanner, say five to ten seconds per page. Later, I found I could scan a page in one or two seconds. I have never gotten the "too fast" alarm.I don't think you would want this for scanning photographs, it is too easy to introduce distortions. Maybe with a little practice, it might be possible. However, it seems like the IRS always has some document that they want you to submit at the most inconvenient of times and this scanner will keep the Feds happy and that is good enough!Pros: small, cheap, handy in a pinch.Cons: awkward to use, especially on checks.

I love this little scanner
The best thing about it is the simplicity and ease of use. Just pick it up, press the button and scroll down the page. No warming up, paper jams, lifting covers, working through menus. It does take a little manual dexterity to develop a smooth stroke, but you can go amazingly fast, especially in black and white.Downloading the documents is also simple, just plug it in and copy. Because of the simplicity, of course, the documents will just be listed as jpeg 01, 02, 03 etc. in chronological order, so if you have a variety of scans on there, you may need to open them up to see what's what. I try to download pretty regularly just so I can sort them out and save them in the right place on my computer.Great product. Hope it's durable, because I use it all the time.
